You dont want a trigger or dog especially hitting right on the back of an animal.Some of the magnum traps like the LDL and Sauvageau have a kill bar that keeps this from happening.It is also not a big deal to move the trigger and dog off center and bend the wires towards the center on traps that dont have a kill bar if you want to set the trigger on top for some reason.
I like the LDL b 120 for marten because neither the trigger nor the dog ever contacts the delicate marten fur no matter how you set.
