I have read where coons are distant relatives of bears. So the meat and fats should be similar. Just don't know about the parasites.

I walk many miles a week. I see lots or road kill, grinners, ground hogs, rabbits, squirrels, birds, snakes etc. and coons. The coons are the last carcasses the buzzards, crows and grinners work on! I keep that in mind when I am thinking about utilizing some coon meat. I put coon fat out for the birds in the winter instead of buying suite and it lasts a long time.

i know what your saying about coon being last to be ate but i bet if you cook it it will be the first gone i know they cant get enough coon cracklings

I wonder if you set a dead pig out with a deer a cow and a chicken wich would be the last one eaten?

Eaten many coon. Used to rub coon fat on leather boots 50 years ago.
