So it sounds like for most of you the perfect pickup exists.... a 1990 base model with nothing xtra on it. Go buy one , enjoy your 12 mpg. What's stopping you???

I think my 1994 gets around 15 to 17 on the highway. I also only put on 4k a year though so that doesn't bother me much.. With what I'm seeing about the new trucks seems like they're in the shop more than they're on the road. Recall after recall. There's far to many gadgets on them that aren't needed as has been discussed and IMO trucks shouldn't have carpet floors either. If you wanna buy a glorified grocery getter get a minivan.

I wish that there was a good supply of older 4wd trucks available but there's not.

If Ford would remake the 1979 F-250 4x4 with the 351m and a four speed manual transmission, I would crowd to the front of the line. However, my 2019 F-350 is much more powerful and much much more comfortable. 750 mile days towing a boat are still comfortable, and 500 mile days are easy.

I've got an 89 Toyota. Lol. It gets better fuel mileage than my 09 Tacoma or my 6.7 Cummins. But it came with carpeted floor boards and I had to add the diff locks and lower gears myself. Question was what would you like in a new truck. You know, one without a million miles on it, rust, or issues from previous owners.
