I've got 3 coyotes to flesh and have never fleshed one before so i got a few questions about em. First do you take the saddle and ear cartilage out or can you just leave them there? Also there is a thin membrane that is like all over the entire pelt do I flesh that out or does that stay also. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

In the last 20 years it has been argued that there is no need to flesh a coyote clean, many still leave the membrane, many do not. Imyself would never do one without taking all of it from ears to tail, just like a coon. But i have had more than one furbuyer gripe that they feel to light, as a rule they changed there mind when i tossed them back into my truck to leave, i never got a complaint from all those i sent to nafa. I liked mine to be soft and crackle nice, not fold like cardboard and stink of old grease.

I remove it, there is a frequently a lot of fat under that membrane. It makes a much nicer put up fur.

I carve them close when skinning, then scrape the excess connecting tissue, fat and ect off when stretched on stretcher, then before turning them I scrap any fat off I see.

I think coyotes flesh a bit easier if you start at the tail end and work your way toward the head. Usually some tough suff down there that balls up if you start at the ears.

Ok so what I am understanding from this is if there is alot of fat under saddle its a pretty good idea to take it off and if theres not just leave it. And take the membrane off rest? should I take thin muscle layer off neck or just leave it because this thing has no fat on him at all.

You want a great price when they come back do a proper fleshing job, which means the pelt sounds like paper when its finished, if it thumps and is heavy your looking at a question on put up.
Questions bring caution which brings doubt, which brings either a low price or no sell.

Learn how to flesh now while prices are low you won't regret the time spent doing it later on.

I flesh all my dogs and then critters right down clean, makes for a much better tan, and I don't worry about the tannery's making holes in them from some green horn on a fleshing machine cleaning up what I left on them.

Flesh all yotes just as you would a coon. You will not be wasting your time. I like to pick up a yote that will fold up any place I pick it up at. I do not like yotes that are heavy with fat and boardy.
