I don't think I'd get on that sort of boat to Juneau.

X2 on Cheechakoes. Wayne Short's other two books are " THis Raw Land" and "Albie, Billy and the Skypilot."

There is a few stories in the CHeechakoes about Cliff Kilkenny and his "HEavy BArrel .220 Swift." He used to be my Grandfather's seal hunting partner back in the bounty hunting days. My Dad now owns the very rifle that was written about in the book.

Another good read is "Fifty Years Below Zero" by Charles Brower.

Thank You all for the replies I am getting just what I wanted out of this post. Alaskas Wolfman--Better than any movie ever made HANDS DOWN!!!

I have been reading some of the stories on the Alaska Trappers Assn. site that were talked about in the Book thread( That I found after I posted this ). The latest adventure takes place in 1834-1844 and is very tuff reading as it is written in Journal form of sort and reads as if you were talking to an uneducated person. But the story is AWSOME it talks alot about the animals that were trapped and what they did with the pelts but not much info on the equipment and tactics used during the era which has really got me wondering what they used??? So maybe if some of you guys have info or know of books on this topic you could spare some time from "LIVING THE DREAM" to shoot a few more posts out.

After reading Brodie's post, Cheechakoes will be my next read as the 220 swift was my first rifle and I love that thing as if it were my child.

Thank You Alaskans

One of my favorite books is "Journal of a Trapper" by Osborne
Russell (1834-1843), Edited by Aubrey L. Haines. The copy I have
was printed by Bison Book Printing, 1965. It's probably out of print now but if you can find a copy at a used book store or on
the web it is well worth getting. Russell trapped the rocky mts
during the hayday of the old time beaver trappers and was one of the few that kept a pretty detailed journal.
