Mist ours are the same way. As long as stay a constant slow speed they'll just sig and watch as you get into range.

Once you get them loose with the knife, use your fingers and thumb to separate the cartlidge from the skin. Be very careful along the edges and once you get to the tip. Use steady pressure.

Try sprinkling a little borax (or even salt) on those ears as you start turning them. It allows you to get a firm grip on either the skin or the ear butt. The steadier you can hold on, the more accurate your knife work is.

On fox and coyote I use a marten board to turn the ears. Its the perfect size and works great. It should work on lynx too.

Nick's talking about using a earskinning board. Make a thin board shaped to fit whatever animals ears you are skinning, place it inside the ear and turn the ear by pulling it down over the board as you skin. On lynx you may want a board a little more tappered on the end than a martin board but a martin board would be better than nothing at all. An ermine board works fairly well also.

Yep speks right on. And I also sanded the marten board I use down to more of a point too as a regular dimension marten board is to wide at the nose. I got the idea from a taxidermist and the difference between using fingers and the board is night and day.

*rant vent moan groan complain*

After this gorgeous snowfall we had I planned on going out to the front and taking some pictures where the snow is pretty and pristine. Was gonna do it in low light, capture the Christmas lights and the snow.... ANYWAY.... so I'm sitting here at the store and VAZOOM some frickin moron with his kid on a snowmachine blows thru all the keep out and no parking signs RIGHT through the middle of the yard AND GETS STUCK and CAN'T start the machine... I go out...

"You DO know you're in the middle of my yard?" as he's yelling at the kid about how to use the machine. "Yeah, now it won't start, sorry, we're working on it." I didn't say anything more figuring Karma was getting him for being stupid by the machine not starting.

Next thing I see is the kid lifting MY string of Xmas lights so moron dad can gun the machine under.... By the time I get Sam over here to the store the idiot is gone... lights are wrecked... HOW MANY barriers and signs does it take to keep people OUT of the yard???

*rant vent moan groan complain*

K, I'm done... I SOOOOO want to move to Chicken!

I knew a really good kid who, in a moment of recklessness, nearly died when piano wire cut into his throat because it was stretched across a snow machine trail. The wire missed his jugular by millimeters and his life was spared. He bears the scar to this day and his voice has been forever altered.

...Just so everyone understands this is just venting going on here!

Thank you for posting that OB. Kinda gives me shivers when people start talking of stringing wire across trails. Hope
whoever set the trap for that kid got wracked for attempted murder.

OB and Spek I wouldn't put piano wire, and yes it's just venting, but I WILL be putting more barriers and more flagged rope and more sawhorses and more large logs and more signs this summer as this is NOT a snowmachine trail (the snow was untouched!), this person had to go around SEVERAL barriers to get into MY FRONT YARD that is clearly marked.

It's called complete disrespect for other's property, as I'm sure has happened to more than one of you more than once.

And as venting that's the reason *rant vent moan groan complain* was posted at both the top and bottom.
