That's a nice looking fish! How are they for table fare?

how do you catch them???

We catch them in nets set in the flooded willow..they run up while the ice is going out..they dont have teath..and have a high oil content..I would bet they were eating hooligin, but spawning now,and yes the mouth opens quite big..kind of like a tarpon..kind of looks like one too.

At least the Grayling are bighting some place. The famly and I hit the Clearwater this weekend and the Grayling were not bighting at all on anything. Two fish for the entire weekend for us, and that is the worst I have ever done on that river. They were in, just not feeding.

Well I've been flyfishing this little spot for over 40 years. There were two other families there last night and they caught one and I landed 20+. 40 years ago the limit was 20 now its 2!

Will be grayling fishing soon. I know they are biting very good down the road. I spend more of my time fishing them in June and July. Will release hundreds in a matter of hours.

We are hosting a smolt counting crew and they just hit one of the big outbound bubbles of smolt.

In fact the smolt were running so hot you can see one here over Mt. Puelik.

Wish our Grayling were at the levels they were before the Sky Ho's and the Otter got them.

We drove the boat past a cow and two newborn calves..they walked into the brush but this little guy slipped, and fell, and could not decide how to get around the log..

Nope the smolt morp into big bucks the smelt go up in smoke.
YK:
They really have problems getting around at first. We usually have twins dropped right in front of the house but the cow wasn't here this year.

I hope Hup doesn't see that. He'll be wanting to hit with a truck.

LOL...and yes UB..you would be suprised how good they can swim at that age though..I have seen them swim, a pretty big slough, and even against the current....they must float pretty good.

I've seen ones smaller than that drown trying to cross this river. Must be quite a difference in strength in just a week or so
