I think not. In fact, the State should probably pay ME for all the veggies it ate!

Do you need to get drawn for a moose tag or can any resident get one over the counter?

Depends on the hunt and unit, there are just regular registration hunt permit over the counter.

A resident, or a NR for that matter, can get a free moose harvest ticket over-the-counter. The NR also needs to buy a moose locking tag.

In my case, I also had to be drawn for the antlerless permit (archery only) to hunt within the Fbx Mgt Area. If I had wanted to just hunt for a bull, I could hunt in the FMA with just my regular license and harvest ticket, without going through the drawing permit process.

The standard Alaska resident hunting license is probably the second best deal in the hunting world. For $25, you can take a moose, a sheep, 3 black bears, an elk,a grizzly, a truckload of caribou, wolves and deer and probably some things I haven't thought of yet.

So if that is the second best deal, what is the BEST deal? Those of us over 60 get a FREE lifetime hunting/fishing/trapping license which gives us "all of the above and more" for EVER for FREE.....!

I see Fish222 made the big time! His smiling face graces the pages of the Alaska Trapper this month. I don't understand why he's lying in the snow or who the guy is that's holding Jon's head up.

I am just putting my Salmon away for the freezer...these are Fall Chums running now..exelent eating.. and as,with all the runs, here this year ,...they are about two weeks late..
they go all the way to Canada,so have a very high oil content.
this one has a bit of color, but most are Dime Bright when they go past here,...and fish and game is not alowing a comercial fishery this year...the fisherman here, better start looking for a job...

Other than timing how do you tell a bright chum from a bright sockeye?

Nice chum Jeff! We get them trolling for silvers sometimes and don't realize we put one in the box until we fillet it. I picked up some silvers this morning out on the flats. Sight casting to mixed schools of chums and silvers in the salt in knee deep water.

The quickest and easiest to tell chums and reds apart is the tail.....chums have silver in the tail(along the rays) and sockeyes don't. Gill rakers also work. Chums are short and widely spaced, sockeye are long and very close together.

Nice Silver PP...we dont eat them here though, they have a strong fishy flavor.chums are preferd.

And thanks for your input Phil,I always here of reports of a lost reds showing up here, now I can check for myself.

Here is the meat from that fish..our chums are sold in the US and EU...we sold over a million lbs this season, and the market exedes our quota.

When I fished in Bristol Bay we would always get docked a percentage for chums mixed with the reds. Never did recognize a chum. Of course we were always picking the net as fast as we could and didn't look too close.

Today they sort the fish by species to avoid the dog %. Last year the dogs were at something like 18% this year it was 85 for those who didn't sort the difference in price can be quite a bit so most sort as a result. they have to pass a sorting test by the cannery and can be spot checked at anytime. Some that have been spot checked ended up having their entire season counted as non sorts when they get caught cheating

One year tendering in the Bay a guy showed up saying he had no dogs (everyone sorted) . Skipper said if we find any you're sorting them all. Sure enough, we ended up dumping every bag on deck and making him sort them all. About 15-20% all mixed in. He did'nt do it again.
