W-17 invented ptarmigen Ramen back in the days before fire. It was called Bottom Ramen.

Back from the wild a bit early. Got in late last night. 3 moose for 4 guys. Shot them all on the same day, 2 days into the trip. Was the easiest pack we have ever had there, and had all three of them in camp on the next day. Should have had 4, but I missed my spike and after it and the cow with it started running around, I didn't take any more shots. Didn't see another bull moose until the day we were going to leave. Had wolves working up and down the river the entire time, and the hot days and clear nights didn't help any for them moving in the day. I have a few pictures from the game camera of them and two bears on a gut pile the same night.

Did get to watch 5 wolves down on the river bed chase a group of caribou. They didn't get any, but was a learning experience to seem them work them and try and get one. Just wish we could have gotten close enough to shoot them.

Pictures and a story later.

All were legal. Need to get things down loaded from the cameras and get a few pictures posted. Lets just say the boy is happy!

Of course he is, he just now realized that moose hunting, doesn't mean you have to go to court.

Here are a few pics. Not much of a story to tell. We got in and two days later, we had three moose down. Here is my son's. 55" according to F&G yesterday when I took it in for his tag. Figures he gets an any bull tag and then shoots a big one. At least no trip to the judge this year... laugh

He was hunting with a family friend this day and his ADD paid off. The boy just can't sit still and he got up to look down on the flats from his hunting spot and saw a cow down below. His parnter that day had a cow tag, so the partner took it. They glad handed, took pictures, went back to get packs and on the way down, Jimmy spotted one of the palms of the bull that must have been bedded down with her.

At the same time this is all going on, my father and I were on another ridge watching a 51" bull, a cow, and a spike. Plan was to shoot the spike first as once things got moving with shots fired, we would have a hard time telling the cow from the spike, and I didn't need another trip to the judge either! We watched them for 4 hours as they would feed, bed down, get up, and meander around a bit, but weren't getting any closer. Finally they all got in a small swamp area that we could see them all and we decided now was the time when we could get broad side shots and the cow was clear. I shot and missed, causing a big splash in the water next to the spike and it took off like a scalded cat, with the cow milling all over the place. I have never seen a moose run that fast. Dad took down the bigger bull and then the fun was on with three moose to butcher and pack. However, the upside was that all three were on the flats and an easy pack to camp.

Jimmy's rack:

And this is what we had running up and down the valley for most of the trip. I think between these and the sunny warm days and clear nights with a bright moon meant nothing was moving during the day. Just luck that we got the moose we did. This is the last picture of them on the camera, but on this gut pile, the bears and the wolves traded visits during the night. Couldn't tell how many were in the pack, but as said before we watched five at one time.

Note the classic grizz hump in this picture:

Did notice that both the grizz and the wolves noticed the camera taking pictures in the night as both came up to check it out. Here is a grizz staring at it. In the sequence, it comes up and sniffs the camera, but they never messed with it.

There were actually two coming in together. Think a sow and a two year old cub, but tough to tell.

No, the upside was you only shot once at the spike and didn't empty a box of ammo @ $3/bullet, which is your normal MO.

Is that a new meat chainsaw? What happened to the other one?

Jimmy looks happy...probably because he knows he'll get to keep this one.

GREAT idea on the game cam. Seriously...probably the smartest thing you've done, right after you got yourself snipped.

But, I like to hear it go BANG! smile

Yeah, new chain saw, but it was a pain. Old one wasn't putting out the HP like it used to, and would cost more to fix than to buy a new one. This one would go, and as soon as you took the finger off the gas, it would die. Not sure the plan yet on a new one or bring back the ECHO.

And it was big. Should have seen him measure that thing every which way trying to get it to 60" I told him to rap it around the palms a few times to get there. He was adamant it was 57".

I wish I had two when I just had the one game camera. We wanted to see what all was hitting the gut piles (didn't want to wait for a sow with small cubs) and the important part was WHEN so we could set up for a visit if they were hitting in the light. Too bad they didn't hit the one with the cam until we were getting ready to leave. Need to get a couple more I think.

Cool trail-cam photos! That is a great idea and I am going to start hauling one out to stick on gut-piles myself!

Congrats to the young moose hunter. VERY nice bull!

Great pictures TJ JImmy looks as happy as that griz getting its free meal. I so have to get my son up there hunting soon.

I remember reading back last spring about your eppisode with his bull last year. What was the outcome of that situation.

Your chain saw mose likely needs only an idle adjustment...simple to do. Just make sure you do not over adjust it to where the clutch does not close and the chain keeps spinning. Poulans never were a favorite of mine but they do work. If your other one is an echo...get an honest opinion they are great cheap saws ! I have a few but like my Still's the best.

Any pictures of your camp ?
