Rained and blew hard from the south here too. We lost all of our snow. It can get this out of it's system, get cold, snow and turn into a good winter!

Rain here in the Banks. Roads are covered in ice. Like a freshly zammed ice rink. Yuk. Just glad I don't have traps out in this yet.

Yeah that's weird I saw that Dillingham was 30 below a few days ago thought it must be a mistake or is Dillingham that different weather-wise?

monsoon come through kotzebue. the sound has 6 inches of water underneath the snow. i been checking my net and having to drive through the water to get to it. the holes don't have any ice to chop through to get to the net. all water all the time we used 16 totes of de icer to keep the jets coming in and out the past 3 days at the airport. finally had a cancel this evening due to the fog and snow. the caribou are going to suffer this winter....
Bring on cold weather,

Schools, state buildings, cabs, bus service, all shut down. I went in to work yesterday and was happy when I actually pulled back into my drive after I was sent home as I seriously thought I was not going to make it (almost just parked and walked). Cars were in ditches every where. Even my dentist canceled my appointment.
State facilities closed again today along with schools, and transportation services.

Do any of the State or National Parks charge a daily fee to ride a horse in a park in Alaska ? They jacked up the fee to $200 A DAY IN NY ! Horses are for riding??? Who knew...I thought they were self propelled sled dog buffets...nothing excites a dog yard like the sound of a chainsaw on a frozen horse, lol. CB, I doubt there is a fee for riding a horse. A fee for parking in the "maintained" parking lot, probably, but I would imagine that if horses are allowed, there is no fee...

Speaking of horses. I'm not sure where Bearbait was "at" when he was being the caretaker for the lodge and trapping. But didn't he lose some horses then?
The reason I ask, is a buddy was hunting for sheep up in Eastern AK, near the Canadian border, and a nice black horse was seen just meandering around and drinking from the creek. No one else in the country (lots of bears though). He got it on video, because he thought no one would believe him that he saw a horse.
