Ok I will do that. What would you say to focus on? I would like to do fox, coon, yote, beaver, and rat.

Brennan - don't take this wrong way, but you are over thinking it. Keep it simple. A chunk of fish or fish paste, a shot of fish oil or shellfish oil, and a dab of lure and you will catch coon. MNCedar makes a good point and that you should learn this animal before you start making your own baits or lures. Kowing how to catch the animal first will help in what you are looking for in a lure or bait and might change your opinion.

I bet you can catch a coon with almost any type of bait.

For you guys, how many coons do you need to average to get 100 a year? I'm homeschooled so got plenty of time for it.

That all depends on your coon densities. If you want to catch 100 coon in a season, well you will need at least 100 coon to catch. If you are determined to catch 100 coon, then set out and do it. It's all in your work ethic when it comes to trapping.

Is there anyway to determine the coon densities? This last season I caught 2 coon. One that I caught all I did was throw some 1 longsprings on the ground and caught one in 2 days. Had plenty of misses. Learned alot though. Last season was my first.

If last season was your first, i would try to catch 25 in a season. How many traps do you have available to set for coon? I like it when a person sets his goals high, but they also need to be realistic.

Well, based solely on how you phrased your question........

Brennan you need .274 coon per day. 365 X .274 = 100.01

grin

If you meant a 100 coon season.....then you should be able to figure it out.

Can't you call your DNR? Some bait or gun stores carry regulation papers for hunting, trapping, and fishing.

Before you even set a trap, i recommend you read all the rules, regulations, and laws pertainging to your state. If something is confusing you, then ask a question and im sure some of the other fellow trappers from nebraska will help you out.

Didn't get around to memorizing other state's trapping regulations this year. Had a few other things going on.
