Day 1 & 2
Well, i've done ADC pretty well all summer on one of Manitoba's most populated fur bearers, the beaver. And now that the colder weather and shorter days have come around the fur has primed up quite nicely. I got a call the other night from the RM (Rural Municipality (Same as a County) asking me to go and remove some beavers that had established a run across the road and we're knocking all the rock in to the swamp. So when I went to check it out and set traps here's what I found.

As you can see here, the beaver are pulling all the rock and gravel off the road as they cross over. Near the top of the photo you can see deeper, darker water.

Other side, with the run heading back to the lodge which is shown below.

But there's the lodge (above) with a muskrat house to it's left.

So I set the traps up that night, just a couple simple dive sets in the channels. Went back to check the following night and had 2 beavers in the sets.

Day 3 Coming Tomorrow

Day 3

So I left the first check on day 2 with two beaver in two 330's. I re set the same traps in the same place, and left them till the next night.

With mother working in the hospital there was something that went on that prevented her from getting home sooner and giving me a ride, so I got out there a little later then I should have on the 3rd check. And as well all know, playing with 330's in the dark isn't a good idea. But anyways, here's the 3rd check at about -2 Celsius:

and #2

And now i'm skinning and removing the castor on them. Don't have any pictures of it as of right now. But I'll throw some up tonight with entry #4 ( Day 4 )

Thanks for the tip, and I don't get wet at all. I don't need to go very deep to make good sets.
Your correct, and I trap beaver in late winter aswell.

I use a Dexter Russell Round Point 6" and flesh over my knee, going to try out a Necker 600 this year and flesh a few on the beam.

and countrysmith - thats only because the beavers are dragging all that rock off the road. You look 15 feet in front of that and it's black as mud.
