CavScout has banana trees in his house. They are 3 years old, still no bananas. I think they would make good smoke wood though....

Make better marten pots, if you ask me.
Weather here has been a real bummer, too. mostly wind. Had a break today that lasted one tide. Then started blowing in the snow. Really tough if you are trying to trap out of a skiff.
Had about 3' of drifted snow in areas, no good crust, and like an idiot, forgot the snow shoes, Cabela's Guide Shoes, of course!

Just doing what I want now.

Warmed up to 22 degrees here...supposed to hit 40 below by the weekend when I can make my next check!

Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

Its been in the 20's here in the sound and nonstop snowing. Got about 2 feet today. Going to take a shovel on my check tomorrow. We are going to have to start moving our marten sets up higher, some of them are below the level of the snow now.

good step to grow bananas.
bananas as we know it are coming to an end. the bananas we eat now are called Cavendish, and they are originally from China. They have a huge problem with the plants dying. there is a fungus or disease that is now killing them all off. it lives in the soil and the spores can survive for up to 30 years.

The cavendish bananas were brought to south america to replace the "original" banana. these bananas also had a bad blite that wiped them out. It made the fruit rot inside the peel. the company that is now chiquita was the original importer and owner of the banana plantations. when the previous blight, 1940's?? was killing off the bananas, the company Dole, brought in the cavendish variety from China, which was resistant to the origianl disease.

Now, the next banana will be of australian variety, as it is resistant to the current fungi. however, it is supposedly a crisper more bitter version.

just a little useless info on bananas.

A combination of both. Spent all day plowing out my place, a
few neighbors and a quarter mile of road.

I can't wait to see what they jack the price of the fuel up to after the delivery to pay for this special tanker to deliver through all that moving ice.

how about the dummies now have "drones" to fly around and check out the ice around the harbor.

No one has a sno go and an ice auger to check the ice??

Researchers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Geophysical Institute arrived in Nome to help evaluate the ice near the harbor last week.

Greg Walker, manager at the Geophysical Institute’s Poker Flat Research Range, arrived in Nome to provide more information on the sea ice outside of town using unmanned aircraft owned by BP Alaska. The small “drones” are about the size of smoke detectors, with four arms with propellors attached. A camera is positioned at the bottom of the craft.

Walker and his research assistants flew the aircraft around the harbor, snapping shots that will be sent to the Renda.

Jessica Cherry, a research assistant professor who also traveled to Nome, said the drones are used to monitor the situation, “especially in ice conditions where there’s the potential for an oil spill.”

This whole thing is stupid. Seriosuly? why do researchers need to show up with drones with cameras to see the ice and evaluate it?

freaking morons. go drill a hole ith an auger or chain saw and measure how thick it is...
