Mornin FT, yea the trap is jus setting in there. We found they are pretty agile and climb on in. The head is there jus a crappy angle. These sets are usually around head high, 5-6ft. Alot of our sets are pole sets, but places that get loads of snow got these boxes. Man i can't wait to get out again, back to work today. Luck out there FT.

1 degree here right now, above, that is. Suppose to get down to 10 below tonight. Gonna have to put on a jacket if that happens!

Dang, that's chilly for this neighborhood. 5 degrees here. Lost power from 10pm last night to 9am this morning and was glad to see 'em turn it back on.

Is 5degrees tough on all the scents & lures in my shed? Will it wreck urines and such?

It shouldn't hurt them but some may freeze if they don't have some kind of antifreeze in them

Yeah, I've been/lived lots of places in Alaska where 5 degrees F is considered pleasant winter weather. Here, it's the bottom of the spectrum.

Just got out from under the house. Jacuzzi drain was froze and had to thaw pipes. Good times.

If it hit -40 here, my place would be a wreck...grin.

I dislike wind, jus makes our cold weather blasted cold lol...used to it though on the machine, but jus working and being in the winds i do not get along with. We get wind here but not so often. But the Jacuzzi sounds nice. I want to find a cedar wood fired hot tub...but first i have to build a deck next summer, thinking a two stage deck should be nice. Add some lighting and a beer tray...Man almost wouldn't want to trap when its cold out there lol

Yeah, sometimes it's nice to jump in the tub with a jug after a bone-chilling Rut hunt.

Most of our crap weather comes from S or SE, which my house is almost completely sheltered from. However, N or NE hits me pretty hard and that's what the last couple days have been.

Being on the water always adds an extra dimension to wind or cold...

We get plenty of "Look at those fools", when I pull the skiff into the gas station at 7:00 in the morning in this sort of weather. It's even better on the way home and the boat looks just like an ice sculpture!
Lots of challenges in winter skiff trapping, like remembering to keep the lower unit in the water while your running sets, check to make sure the steering isn't frozen, BEFORE LEAVING THE RAMP, just little things that turn into big things this time of year.

Just doing what I want now.

Takotna, thats cool. Some willow islands on the river are covered in moose, sometimes 6-8 moose in one area. Nice view from the window.

Do you anchor buddy, indian anchor, or what, when leaving the boat?

When I check traps I first check to see what the tide is doing. If its going to be coming in when I am checking I just toss the anchor over right up at the waterline, running a longer line up the shore a ways in case I am there for a while and go check my traps. If it's outgoing I pretty much know which spots have a steep shore and which ones I have to be careful on. If it is good and steep with no big rocks I might just run up real quick and take a peek. Rarely do I have to indian anchor.

Oh yeah, what about the boat? Sometimes I have to bring someone to keep the boat offshore due to the tide going out or wave action. Indian anchoring doesn't work with a long shallow grade beach. I have thought about making a haul-out at a couple beaches.
