Well went out yesterday on the line, the 440 i got ran fine. Nice driving. I had one a few years ago that had almost 11k miles and blew the block. So nice to get another 440. All the lynx sets and wolf posts were buried. Well came home with a martin anyways. Fiesty lil guy. Got a few more wolf posts in along their route. So well see what happens within the next couple days.

How many of you skin in the house? I have a fur shed, but it's wood heated. During this cold spell, it would take 2 hours to heat the darn thing so I started skinning in the boiler room again. It saves time and as long as everything is really clean when I get done, I don't get in trouble. Now that it's warm, I'm back to the shed. smile

Nope. Built a shed so I didn't have to skin in the garage and hear about the smell all the time. Best thing I ever did. Stuck a monitor heater in there on one end that I keep at 48 to keep the shed above freezing and then when I get in I fire up the wood stove and it is hot in no time at all. Love that shed! Only issue is I wish I had built the ceiling higher than I did.

I could put a toyo in there, but that would mean hooking up electricity to it.

Yes, I have and may go that route, but I have LOTS of wood. I now have a cold storage so that could be a viable option. I didn't want keep heat in there all time as my critters stayed frozen nicely in the shed.

In reality, I really need a garage. I have accumulated so much gear and with the business, it's hard to keep it all organized.

Rafe, my shed has the small toyo, and all I did was run and extension cord to it. Made such a difference!!

I have an extension cord, but it's a hundred footer. Right now, I'm thinking BIG GARAGE...

Kusko, it shouldn't take 2 hours to warm a shed with even the smallest wood stove. I built a 12x12 generator shed this summer and put a very small wood stove in it. When it's -30 plus it only takes 1/2 hour to get it 60-70 above. I would stay away from the drip stoves, they will take ALOT longer to bring the shed up to temp. Thats the reason I went with wood in the gen shed. We usually roll into the cabin around midnight and I can be powered up with in 45 min..

You are right Steve, it shouldn't, BUT....when the stack goes from 5 inches to 3 inches....it doesn't really throw the heat like it should.

I would bet your woodshed has less ventilation than my skinning shed.... LOL!

Yup stay away from the drip stoves. I have a small Nordic stove good for a tent but when I stuck it in the new fur shed 12x20 it couldn't keep up never got above 60 even at 32 degrees. So I will be putting in a toyo this summer

I skinned @ my dads for a few years. Then last fall i built a small skin shack out back. Way to small but insist if your building one thats gonna be small think 50% bigger! wish i woulda did that. lol very small but cheap to use. Powered with an extension cord, has ceiling lights, 3 windows and a door with a window. So lots light is a must. Toyo stove heated. Shoulda built way bigger, more like garage size with a wood stove. Car and sled is still cold....

Wouldnt a wood stove with a glass door or front raadiate more heat more efficiently into the room or shed versus a cast iron or all metal stove?? Seems to make thermodynamically sense to me or am I in left field.?

Kusko,

Sounds like you have a great excuse to build a nice big shop/garage/fur shop! Go big and do it right the first time, with power, heat, and some running water. If you are going to have to sell it to the Red Fury, might as well go big!

That's right, heck I might as well put a toilet in it too just in case I'm sleeping in it.....

Go big or go home....right??

So....I need an addition to the house and a 2 and 1/2 car garage with a sink, toilet, and wet bar....

I should hire a pro skinner too....

I abandoned my little 10'X12' shed this year for a new one that is 25'X31'. Way too many lights, running water, and a Toyo. 9 foot ceilings and plumbing roughed in for a urinal. Of course I had to claim the project as a garage to get the missus to go along with it, but heck, once the boat, skinning table, fleshing beam, traps, boxes, and what-have-you were in place, as well as a dedicated work area, well, there's just not enough room for her SUV! Of course one has to be diligent and crack open the Gusto and hit a mink gland once in a while to assure the boat won't get displaced with her vehicle. Guess I should have gone bigger, too!

Just doing what I want now.
