I've eaten merganser a couple of times and thought it was fine,,but I was very much in the need of vittles at the time. Funny. A buddy of mine in SE would keep shooting them and feed them to his little kids. I guess after eating those, eating veggies was no big deal for them.... -TJ

Are they stinking pretty bad AKPP? O yeah! Definitely the breeding season. The dog in the bottom picture revealed himself by territorial barking and I suckered him in to about 40 yds with some fox pro mojo. When I shot he dropped and slid about 25 yds into a shallow ravine and peed a trail the whole way. Stunk up the whole valley. I skinned him right there and gave him a thorough snow bath. My hands still smell 'foxy' lol!

Shot a Merganser once on accident when duck hunting. Sent the dog out after it and it went up, sniffed it, and then came back. She REFUSED to pick it up and bring it back. Must have known it was a S**T duck.
-TJ I like to shoot them anytime possible. they don't count against your limit of "regular" ducks, and you save a whole lot of salmon by shooting them...

I haven't found any paired up yet but it won't be long. Usually by this time of year I'm done because a lot of them start looking pretty rough. I probably wrap it up next week regardless, they are getting pretty sparse. Sure have a lot of fat on them. Must have been making a good living on winter kill!

Lots of dead deer to munch on. I have been seeing less and less deer on the beaches as the weeks go by.

The dieing seems to have slowed down here a little. I saw a fresh dead one yesterday but generally the survivors seem to be doing ok. Still a bunch of deer around so if we don't get another bad snow storm we should be in pretty good shape. This is our third snowiest year on record and what has made it worse is that it hasn't melted between snows as usual. On a happy note I have been finding more bunnies than what it was looking like a month or so ago. It's kind of weird though. Some places where there are typically tons of them have very few, while other areas a few miles away are still holding lots. Maybe this isn't our big crash year after all.

When I was calling fox I also used the 17vmax with good results. However I have had problems with them on otter, so I switched to the 20gr hp and they work a lot better on the tough otters we have around here. My ruger is going to get some work done to it this summer. The saltwater has not been kind to my poor blued baby. It is still accurate as all get out though.

I went back to a .22 mag from my .17 for a couple of reasons. I had two foxes get away that I drilled with the .17 and I have never lost one that I hit solid with a .22 mag. Also, I missed several on the first shot as they were running with my bolt action .17 and could have probably taken them out with a semi auto. I bought a new .22 mag semi auto this year because I really hated the trigger on my old one. The trigger on my new Remington is breaking at about 2 lb. which is like heaven for me and H E double hockey sticks for the foxes. But I still love my .17 and it will be my beat around the bushes bunny slayer, and I wouldn't hesitate to draw down on another fox with it. Heart/ lung only though!
