Taking a sticky bait, smearing it against a rock/bridge wall/vertical bank, and setting your trap in the water in front of it.

LOL, We do have a pretty darn good mink population. I just want to catch coons at the beginning of season and do it quickly, nothing more, nothing less.

What exactly is a smear set? Lure or bait rubbed on a log, rock, or bank? That is correct, with a trap staked just below it, usually under the water.

I use pocket sets pvc pipe shoved in the bank and a set thats called a shelf set you take a shovel and shave the bank down till you have a shelf then take your trowel handel and punch a hole with it squirt fish oil in it and shove a film canister with lure or bait in it next to it and just set your trap. If you put your holes high enugh it will take alot of rising water and still take coon. For dry land I like coni boxes and dirt hole sets and cubbie sets too.
You can take the boy from the farm but you cant take the farm from the boy.
Season totals so far.
coons 51. coyotes 11.

Trench pocket set. Prepaired fishy/sweet bait, and 4 0z. of one of my lures in a pint of fish oil or crayfish oil. Dig pocket deep and bed trap deep. Trench gives coon no options but the trap pan for foot placement, deep pocket keeps coon working until caught, deep trap avoids flipped traps and produces better pad catches, use of a lot of different odors that drive coon crazy stop every coon that passes. I have used practically every coon set over the years (fish stick, smear set, 220 trails, snares, buckets, cubbys) and none have been as efficient as the trench pocket. Coon trapping is my livlihood for four months of the year. I had to develope a set that produces the most coon in the shortest amount of time.

I know you sell a video Dave, but can you elaborate more on this trench pocket? I'm having a hard time putting the image in my head.
