Ok, I suppose I forgot to ask which has the advantage and why.

I have aways used underalls, pan covers have always been a pain in the rear to me. I have heard so much about this pollyfill till I think I am going to have to give it a try. I have to tell you, I just never liked the idea of putting anything on top of my jaws other than loss, sifted dirt. I always worried they would clog up the trap on wet or cold nights. The underalls go under the pan and out of the way of the jaws and their proper opperation. This is just my thoughts on the matter.

I feel the same. Last season (my first) it just didn't make sense to me to put something over the trap, but that's the only way I had learned. It worked, but underalls make more sense to me. I've read that "sill seal" can be used for this...any thoughts??

I don't know what sill seal is, all I have heard about is pollyfill. It is suppose to be water resistant also. That means I will now have to dip my underalls in anti freeze any more.

From what I've read, sill seal is some kind of woven fiberglass that used in building construction between the foundation and the house itself. Haven't got to look into it any further yet.

i am gonna try several differnt pan type covers. backup is the polyfill. it works great. even after a rain.

If you are using larger traps for coyote like #3's you are missing out if not using wire screen.

Question about wire screen covers. I've heard that since the wire screen makes the "kill area" larger on the traps, that a coyote/fox can stand about anywhere on the inside of the trap and fire it, which could result in more toe catches?

Am I thinking too hard? Or is that just a theory?

That's what I was thinking, but I've never used them.

The wire screen increases the kill area over the trap. I also like the wire screen as it seems like my sets made with screen do not freeze up, or stay frozen like sets using plastic or wax paper do. I theorize that the set can "breathe" (for lack of a better term) with the screen, where plastic or wax paper traps moisture.

Whenever the subject of increasing the kill area comes up, you will get people telling you to improve your guiding at the set etc. You will also hear horror stories about toe catches. I have not had any real problems with toe catches, and I will take all the help I can get when it comes to guiding.

If you try wire screen on #3's, you will be happy.

2 questions

1 - Where do you get the poli fill at, is it just regular pillow type filling or is it something special?

2 - For the wire screens, what size do you cut it? Just a little smaller than the open jaws, or just a little bigger than the pan?

Just inside the jaws and leave enough to fit well under the free jaw, so the free jaw can lay on it. Just buy the pillow filling anywhere you can find it.

What is used for the screen? I'm assuming there is a way around buying the pre-cut ones.
