I take it you already ate the good stuff first, like the tongue, nose, ears, and "oysters" and are now forced to somehow make the regular ol meat edible...

I took a picture from a pig roast this summer for YJ...(and cant find it) I took the pig head to eat.. chewed on an ear, crunchy, ate the jowels, super good, couldn't cut the tongue with the plastic silverware so it didnt get eaten......

The tongue is in the freezer, waiting for a special ocassion..

That hog head sounds good! I used to butcher and roast hogs for extra beer money when I was in high school.

Almost white king. Kind of an orange creamcicle color. This is from an ocean caught feeder king. Hup would have loved it!

Never caught one this color before...

Well I have had the pleasure of working in the King Cove School this week. What a beautiful area.

No bears sighted yet but there here. Big bear trails all over town.
Been 3 in the dumpster every night next to the houses across from the school. Brown Bears.
Lots of bear stories here.
There the town pests.

So I over packed my food cache for the trip. Not use to a cannery Town.
Thought I would keep up with the meal posts.
Peter Pan Seafoods provides meals three times a day for not only employees but for whoever wants to come and eat in the town. Fee for non employees is $10 a meal.

Saturday night is Steak night and pretty popular. All you can eat every meal.
Had halibut on Wednesday. Cod and Shrimp tonight. And a huge salad bar. At least considering where we are. Oh ya!
Was hoping to loose a few pounds over the weekend. Well so much for that idea.

Picked some carrots from my garden to bring out before I left Homer. A good crop this year.
I love using my home made carrot seeder. Evenly spaced, no thinning. This is a photo of the ground after I took the carrots out. One carrot space left between each carrot. I have the spacing just right. Time to patent it! grin

I grow a variety from Johnny Seeds which is pelleted. The key to not planting too close as happens with regular carrot seeds. They are called Bolario They are an excellent eating carrot and keep all winter. I was eating carrots I stored in damp sand till April and they were still great.

Ready for distribution to friends, family and taking to King Cove.

I trasplant a number of carrots each year as the kids love the odd balls that happen when you transplant. Splits, etc.
This one was a double post that got involved behind closed doors.

Blizzard at 400 feet !

The inside view after things had calmed down a bit.

The hunters collapsed tent on the left from the four in the morning tent abandonment.

A photo op after the winds let up enough so I could go out and pee!

I love living in the armpit! Where else can you go from a flood to a blizzard in the span of four days?
crazy

Oh I forgot: Saw a lot of Beaver Sign! wink

That is a great photo of King Cove from the air. The food thing looks like the slope.

All part of the neighborhood. There have been times I thought I went through all four seasons before noon.

This bull and the three I saw last week are the total migration we have seen so far this year. In the peak it wasn't uncommon to see a thousand a day this time of year.

The bunnies are at a real disadvantage here this year. I looked out the window at 0600 today and saw a dark spot hopping around in the snow. They haven't even started to change color yet. If I can see them in the dark so can Mr. Owl.

There about half white here, and very scarce I have only seen two this fall, and they were both road kill.

Made my first excursion of the year into goat country today. Hiked close to 3 hours to get into my area and as soon as I sat down to glass a snow storm moved in and then it began to thunder and lightning. Visibility went to a few hundred yards and it was game over. Saw a doe, a flock of ptarmigan, and a nanny and kid, so it was a good day.
