Looks like your off to a good start TFT! Nice catches! I have an ermine in my porch that my wife forbids me to trap!

If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!

She's all gutted, skun and now hanging. Should be some good meat! .243 really did it's job here.

With a 100 grain bullet from my .243 it went in well and did an impressive job once inside the deer.

Those deer are tough little critters! Hear about a lot of them running off with good hits!

Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

November 20, 2012 (continued):

Just went out and checked my sets, dumped the deer left overs in the bush, and added a few marten/fisher sets around it.

Wasn't a bad check either, 1st off I caught weasel #5:

and then a much more exciting catch:

and lunch:

Inside's of deer dumped out, sets surrounding it.

Good day I'd say. Off to skin. smile

The bears are bigger up north... would't go into bear country either with a 243.

This kind.... lol!

But if you are going to carry one while they are out it's a good idea to remove the scope and file off the front sight.

I think he means you should remove the scope and file the sites off so it hurts less when the bear shoves the gun up your [Please excuse my language... I'm an idiot].

Either way!
It's not a good idea for a charging bear!

It makes the surgical extraction much more pleasant as well... lol! Seriously, some of the bears here have become conditioned to respond to the smell of a fresh gut pile and some folks believe they respond to the rifle shot as well. A lot of deer have been taken and several hunters mauled in the last ten years. It's a good idea to carry a little more umph and keep your head on a swivel here. I use my .243 on beach hunts primarily but carry it in bear country once in a while when hunting with backup. It is a deer slayer for sure.

November 21, 2012:

Went out today and checked sets, had a pretty big weasel (biggest of season) and another rabbit.
Rabbit's for lunch tomorrow! laugh

We have Friday off school so I am planning to go and put a bunch of sets out, then some more Saturday. Will keep you posted.
