I am going to be sixteen in may and wanted to start a SMALL ADC business over the summer. Just hoping for a couple jobs here and there but this is my real question: Is there an age limit for me to get a license to do this stuff. i have read all the stuff concerning it but found nothing about age. I am hoping someone from Oregon can help with this but there are not that many so i thought i would see what your guys experience with this situation is or if you know.
Thanks Guys

16 will probably do in most states for a general trapping license but businesses require contracts and contract law prevents minors from entering a contract.

Your state is not exactly adc friendly if I remember right too.

If you need some help learning about this industry check out my podcasts (see below)

i will not stickily call it a business but a kinda word of mouth job. Do you think there are restrictions on if a minor can get a ADC license?
Thanks for your input guys!

I really appreciate the desire of young folks to get into action.

I would suggest you get in touch with your local game warden and explain what it is you'd like to do. He will probably be the deciding factor here.

I know sometimes it's intimidating to contact people in authority but you're going to have to get used to it. Might as well start now. Call your Fish&Game Department and ask to talk to the game warden.

There are plenty of kids under 18yo doing various summer work and I think nuisance trapping fits just fine.

You wont know until you ask the game warden.

Talking to your game warden (or several different ones) , as mentioned earlier is your first place to start. Also remember that most likely you are going to be required to have liability insurance to do ADC work. I admire you wanting to get into the field. Good luck.

16 might be too young to legally own and operate a Business, however it is not too young to work a honest job. Congratulations on your desire. One great option would be for you to seek a internship or job working for an established ADC Business. Best of luck and keep walking forward.

If your state requires a test you are going to have to be 18.

See, now here's the problem. If my 3 year old grandson has to show his 70 year old grandfather how to operate an IPad, wouldn't you think that there might be some sort of age problem.

( I asked my 11 year old grandson how to do it, but he went so fast that I couldn't keep up, hence the three year old.

If I were 3, I'd hire grandpa to take the test and do the labor.

Bet it's hard to keep up with the 11-year-old when you're keeping notes with a piece of charcoal and a slate.

well good news. i talked to the odfw officer and he said that there was a need and that as far as he could tell that i was clear to take the test and get licensed so i first have to do a background check but then i am taking the test.
So far so good

I will not be long and you will need a back ground check to buy a live trap and give up your first born to buy a body hold trap.

Knewguuy,
Sounds great and i WISH YOU THE BEST. Seems you already have some business sense. Take on what you feel comfortable with and do your best. You might be able to serve some of your lawn care customer with some mole/ground squirrel /gopher trapping services.

Once the cages are set for raccoon all I need is a transfer cage and some good lure to rebait with. For skunk , a good plastic bucket with holes in the lid to put him in and again something good to rebait with.
