I have enough $ to get about 1/2 doz. mole traps. I am trying to decide between Victor Out o' Sight's and Victor Plunger Traps. I will be trapping a fairly small piece of land that has had mole problems in the past. Any ideas or opinions would be great.

I would use the Out o' Sights. Don't care much for the plunger type traps. Especially the new ones.

No mole traps. You will run into star nose on occasion....and the out of sights will not get them easily.

I like the idea of no-mole traps, they're too expensive for me right now though. Looks like I'm getting some out o' sights.

Then go out of sight.

Steve Albanos trapline mole traps have become our companies number one go to mole control traps. Our mole runs on average have become deeper for the last several years for some reason. Typically only the shallow runs can be set quickly with O/S traps or spear type mole traps without digging down to get to the jaw catch level. By the time you do that you might as well use the trapline traps.

Once you establish a setting system with the Albano clutch type traps they are deadly for mole control work with double catches taken freqently. This really speeds up closing jobs when you find that primary travel run. I rarely use other type traps now. My set up system is fast and extremely efficient.

For the cost and versatility of this trap knowing what I know now from experience, Steves traps would be my choice of traps if having to choose which mole traps to purchase over others. They are great little devices.

I use the OOS as well for almost all of my sets due to most runs being 5" or less in most cases and the soil being very rocky. However, I have found Steve's Trapline Products (TLP) traps to be ideal for homes with irrigation lines running along the foundation. The moles will tunnel over, under or beside the line and the OOS is hard to use in these instances whereas the TLP fits nicely. I've used the NoMols as well with limited success and sold all but one dozen. I haven't used them at all in the last two years.

Why don't you like no mole?

Dave, if you're asking me... Too small of an opening, lost rings, missed captures, having to dig them up to check, etc. Why not spend a few dollars more on Steve's traps for a better product with better results with the same amount of labor? I think it all boils down to mole type, soil conditions and personal preference.

For surface runs and in sandy soils, I use the OOS exclusively. For deeper mole runs and along fences, driveways and foundations I use Steve Albano's trap. I would also check out Bud25's "Modified OOS." They are worth it IMHO! Good Luck!

Thanks metro. Good points. I agree with your thoughts on lost rings and small opening. On the positive side, they are a simple design, take up little space, and are easy to learn.

I use Steve Albanos also, same reason as Everet. I have caught a Labordoodle in one, No clue what he was thinking.... The other trap was empty, so not for a stinky toy....

I started with the out of site traps but quickly switched to the trap line style. They are easy to use and I have very few misses except for one property I trapped, every time I checked the traps they were all sprung and all misses, but the mole activity all stopped. Hmmmmm
