Dave, they say that all the time. I just sounds different to you. It sounds more like, "I'll talk it over with my wife/husband and get back to you." You just needed a translator to 'splain it to you. You're welcome.

If they truly have a problem, if they truly need me and if they truly can't afford it, then all they have to do is tell me and I'll work something out with them. I'm not above taking a trade if need be. Or I can take payments so long as they are willing to see it through.

I've done a couple jobs for shotguns that they had and didn't need. Once I took some fishing gear for a trade and once I accepted a deal on a motorcycle. In these cases, the job got done, it cost them only something they weren't using anyway and every body was happy.

But the ones that burn me up are the ones who tell you all is well, and then when it comes time to pay the bill say, "I ain't got it." They knew when they called that they had no intention of paying! Those are the ones that I try to make it hard on later.

I should have a disclaimer that plainly states, "Twice the critters back if not completely satisfied or if payment is refused"!

If I've decided before the call is over that I'm not gonna hire a company, I'll tell 'em so. The words "I'll call you back" are the most common lie I ever hear; the way I was raised "I will" means I WILL; not I might, if I like you best, or if if if.
