I have a raccoon in a chimney that will not evict with Vanish.I expect that it is a female ( she it there constantly) the males camp out on a location for a day or two then leave for ten days - two weeks.
I have a few ideas, but I would like to learn from someone else mistakes. I need a opinion from some people whom have been there done that.
I have a wild lifetech caller that produces sounds of a adult coon fighting with very young coon . I think I can have ma coon on one side of the chimney damper and sounds of the devil him self on the other.

2 Simply catch the female in a cage trap and release her. ( from this web site)

Will ether of these two options produce enough stress so that the female will reliably evict and take the young else were.

thanks Bob

bob, would I be correct that this is a dead end chimney with no opening anywhere near the bottom? My luck with Vanish has not always been great. In the future you might also want to have some of Rob Erickson's eviction fluid on hand. Give us a little better description of the chimney and maybe we can help.

Do a positive set on the chimney and see if that works. I swear I read a story on here about a road flare and a 22wmr pistol. That last one seemed to do the trick.

When I have a stubborn female I do the second option. Trap her Take her for a ride checking jobs. Return back to the site rattle her cage and put some vanish on her. She probly won't run back into the chimney right then. This method is 100% sucsess for me. These are southern coon tho! lol

This chimney is a natural fire place, it is about 2ft by 1 ft. I am afraid that if I try to fish the small coon out through the damper they will have lots of running room an I will probably get some but not all. I am hoping to evict the female and she will take the young with her.

thanks for the help

We tried the "aggressive coon" call from the fireplace to drive Mama Coon up the chimney. Instead, she shot thru the closed damper and attacked my wife, who was holding the caller. Wife had to get rabies shots.

It sounds like you may have already done it from what you describe the female sounding like. If you are going to use the wildlife caller you can use it on either end of the chimney to make her feel like it is not a safe place. If you are going to use coon sounds don't be like Dave make sure you have a secure damper and use a remote because she will move toward the caller. I sold Dave the caller and I didn't think to tell him that. It would be funny but I hate a wife getting bit. My best friend would be ok especially if I am there to witness it.
If you have a positive set chimtrap of some kind you may be able to call her into the trap with the caller. If that happens I like Paul's idea of driving her around and releasing her to do her work. I don't think you will be able to lure her in a cage trap near the house unless it is a chim trap of sorts. I usually rub the vanish around the flue the drop the pper towel I used down the chimney. One time the female attacked the towel then realizing it not to be a threat she slowly ate the vanish off the towel and moved that night. I have taken a nylon tow rope with a metal hook just for a little intimidation put a little vanish on it and lowered it and banged around above the fire box. Sometimes they hide and avoid it sometimes they will fight with it but they always move. Bolt a metal or wood plate slightly smaller than the flue to a chimney rod. Lower it down bounce it around until she starts up the flue then pull the plate up into the flue. Only do this if you are comfortable on a roof with a mama coon and the roof isn't dangerous. Rich Daniotti made a system that WCS used to carry but I'm not sure they make it anymore that did that ran it out into a trap.
If all of this doesnt work put a harness on a patterdale terrier lower him down the flue I promise that will work and he whe will enjoy it.
If evicting her doesn't work positive set the chimney catch her then reach thru the damper and pick the babies up.
I think you have already moved her.

Sleep'n with an animal..I can help.
Do not use both feet when testing the depth or temperature of the water

No worries, Paul. We learned a lesson there, and you can't be responsible for every possibility.
