Are you working on Sundays?

Do you find it easier to sell when you show up on Sunday and meet your customers vs other days of the week?

One of my clients thinks so? What say you!

People are shocked when I've had them ask when can you come out and I say right now (on a sunday or saturday even). I do think it helps show commitment to them, though I get why folks don't work sundays as well, 1,000%, my family had a business that only closed on sundays and they still heard grief from folks who wanted that day open through the 40+ years they operated. When you are a small operation like so many on here and like my grandparents, you get to see just what it takes to make a living and still make family time and quality time....

Always a balancing act for sure.

I try to cut off early at least one day on the weekend to spend time with the family.

I should probably do an article on this subject. We live in a fairly religious area and even our large amount of Jewish customers appreciate that we are devout Christians. We are fortunate to have church services on both Thursday and Saturday evenings. The fact that we are available on Sunday mornings is not lost on our customers. We readily explain that we have been in this business for many years and that we know that wildlife doesn't take Sunday mornings off and neither do we.

Yes, I think that emergency work on Sundays does encourage our customers to stay with our company but seriously, doesn't the law in your state require you to check your cages on Sunday anyway? We may charge a customer ten bucks more for a Sunday job but not much more. We will sometimes give our employees an extra large chunk of change on some Sunday service calls if they are already done for the day. ( As a matter of fact, we have two employees out right now that are making more money per hour than I ever did )

I personally love weekends. I got done with my jobs today in half the time because of less traffic. ( And I still made the same amount of money) You need to remember that in this tight economy that some of your customers are working long hours as well and Sundays may be their only opportunity.

Never crossed my mind to charge more on the weekend, every day is Monday to me:) The only time I charge extra is the late night you have to get out here right now calls.

I work retail to pay the rent still. Since my happiness and health mean nothing to the company, I work random hours. I get one weekend off a month and split days off once a month and mid days the rest of the week. The times I work are random as well. So honestly to me it really is all the same. I haven't had a day off in a month because of calls. That's fine by me I enjoy this work.
But also even given my limited experience in this business. If you don't come, they may try to do it themselves. Guy thinks he killed the bat in his house, picks it up barehanded..........
I got a call from a lady last week. Her neighbor had threatened her into calling me. Her son had caught two skunks in a cage trap. Then left them in the bright sun in 95+ degrees while he
went to work.

Just because something is legal doesn't make it smart.

Hey Tom, I know exactly where you are coming from. The only thing that blows that away, once in a while at least, is that I'm a mile away from a new job on Sunday, so why come all the way back here to set up the job on Monday?

My big question is this: I always feel sorry for our employees on the weekend, so how come I never feel sorry for me? I don't even get a wage.

For me Paul Sunday is the Lords day. If I do my regular work on a regular basis, it is no longer the Lords day but it becomes my day. God has blessed me very well in this business. He has provided more than enough for me 6 days a week. Giving him 1 day to focus on him while living for him the other 6 days is a form of worship for me. We all need to decide what is right so don't take this as me judging anyone. It is just the way I see it and have been blessed by it.

Hey Vinke, I said I enjoy working on the weekends. I goof off the rest of the week. ( Which is quite obvious by all the time I spend writing stupid stuff on T-Man )

Rick, reminds me of a great Dilbert cartoon.

Pointy Haired Boss: We expect you to work 176 hours a week.

Alice: But there's only 168 hours in one week.

Pointy Haired Boss: We expect your family to help out.

I answer the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I took a 3 week vacation back in '09, that's been it in 12 years. Haven't hunted a full day sunup to sundown in ten years, always have to come back to town to take care of some varmint issue. WORK-WORK-WORK-WORK no rest for the wicked which must make me really evil.

Just showing up when you say you will usually sells the jobs. A nice beard helps to.

Other than trap checks, I do not schedule Sunday work but will respond to calls. Don't schedule much on Saturday's either if I can avoid it. Already spent 38 years working retail, missing family events.

For you men that don't have lives ....Is it because you can't afford to take time off ? Or are you just so addicted to money that you don't want the time to spend it ?? Taking a couple days off a week is not such a bad experience ...

There have been times that I wanted to or needed to work seven days a week to accomplish a goal but once it was accomplished I went back to six days, then five.

The past few years I've found there's a lot of fish that need catchin' and a lot of lakes and ponds that need someone casting a fishin' line so they don't seem so lonely. I do my part to rectify that situation.

I'll check traps on the weekend of course but I can't say I consider any of the calls I get an "emergency" that can't wait a day or two.

As some know I work a day job, it's the only way to have health insurance on the wife and myself, so if I'm not at the day job I'm chasing critters which requires evenings and weekends to keep up. If my schedule is light on weekends I have home, vehicle and yard maintenance to do which leaves ZERO time off.
I watched both parents die of old age and am watching my 90+ neighbors shrivel up into useless slugs. I don't want to go that way, I plan on dying in my tracks, hopefully those tracks are left in a beaver pond somewhere.

In Mass. I get a 10 day special permit to trap beavers with a conibear/cage trap. You have a 24 hour check law. I can't skip the weekends or Sunday. I want those rodents gone in ten days!!!

Salys, I'm kind of working on the 90+ useless slug shrivel. I think I've got the "useless" part nearly done.

My dog used to chase his tail a lot. The only way he'd ever succeed is if he sat down; then he could grab his tail. Kind of a weak analogy, but I know two guys who work insane hours (because their keepers tell them to) - they're always sick, achin', full of medication. I consider myself blessed that I feel no need to live that way.
Yes, there's always work to do. There are also fish to catch and trails to ride.

Paul poor choice of words on my part, I should have used the word helpless, useless is that thing in D.C.

And I did break with the grind, I packed a full day into Saturday morning so I could take the granddaughter shopping for new camo since this is her first huntin' season. We even went and had a nice sit down lunch which is something she and I have never done before. Sunday was back to it, all day in a wolf trapping certification class and a quick check on a gopher job.
