Guys many of you know I have long wanted a Georgia Association for us NWCOs but for whatever reason we remain isolated and divided. Here's an example from my bee club, the Henry County Beekeepers Association a one hundred plus family (all family members are enrolled and we count by the family) club. We actually have more members in our little club than the entire Georgia State Beekeepers Association has in it and we are in the top three membership numbers of any club in the state.
Last night at our monthly meeting one of our members brought up an issue he is having with Henry County Code Enforcement. He was cited this past week for having a single hive of bees on his own property, two acres in an area zoned argicultural.
Before the meeting was over this member had a lawyer, and the club was making plans to contact every member of the county commision (including the commisioner that is a member of the club) and if need be pack out a commission meeting or two.
To us this is old hat as Fayette County Zoning Board attempted to outlaw beekeeping last year in the entire county. Not only did our Henry club participate but also the Tara Beekeepers Association and the Coweta Beekeepers Association did as well. After several standing room only meetings the Fayette County Zoning Board surrendered.

I know this is not trapping or NWCO related but it is an example of how to get things done when one of our own gets the shaft. So all you proud Georgia trappers to proud to associate with each other continue on and don't be surprised when there no one around in your time of need.

As of this AM we have the full support of the state association and surrounding clubs.

Kick butt, and take names! Any particular reason they want to ban bee's? Aren't they aware of the serious bee decline going on?

BigBob, at this point my understanding is that the complaintant is the step daughter's grandfather who is not even a resident or property owner in the state of Georgia. It sounds like a blended family domestic issue but the county Code Enforcement did issue a citation so it is now a legal matter for our member. Strange thing though is there there are ZERO county codes regarding bees on the books and the citation was issued without citing the code he was in violation of.
To boot, Georgia has a state law on the books that prohibits any county or municipality from passing any ordinance that would prohibit the keeping of bees. This law doesn't apply to zoning boards though which has been the back door way the counties have tried to ban beekeeping. Right now we have somewhat of the upper hand as none other than the Governor himself, or more correctly his wife, is a long time beekeeper and not the feel good kind like the idiot lady in Washington who has others tend the hives.

Even the very stupidest politician (and there's a huge competition there...) has to pay attention to numbers/citizens with torches and pitchforks.

Tomorrow is National Honey Bee Day and there will be a lot either going on locally, or somewhere in your state.

The Honey Bee gets a bad rap because of fear.

The program is designed nationwide to put Honeybees and beekeeping in the best light.
