Illinois: Coons have to relased on site within 100 yards of where caught or put down. ALL skunks Must be put down. Every thing else may be released 40 miles from where caught, but must have written permission from land owner where released.

In my state, all skunks must be put down, Coons, put down or released with in 100 ft of where caught. Most other animals can be released. With permission of land owner at least 10 miles but not more than 40 miles from where caught.

VA. Orphaned or injured wildlife may be taken to a licensed rehabber. Otherwise, all species (except squirrels) must be euthanized, or released on site. I'm not sure if a staggering raccoon is considered "injured", but I tend not to play with grey areas, where the law is concerned. Five snakes of each species in possession, for personal use. (law based on religious practices, it's an Appalachian thing!)

It wasn't easy but I was able to get the video of the research being done in Illinois on relocation . As Paul stated I think they could have picked a better habatate but still it's amazing how fast the animal passed on being out of its home range

Pesky wrong thread. This is just a poll. Feel free to post the bunny video on the other one where the debate was going on.

Indiana: captured wildlife can be released within 24 hours, in the county of capture, and with written permission from the landowner.

I do work in Mass. and N.H.

Mass. release on owner's property or euthanize.
N.H. can release with written permission from land owner.

RELOCATION OF LIVE WILDLIFE:
Except as otherwise provided, NWCOs can relocate wildlife pursuant to the following:
1) ODWC does not encourage the release or relocation to urban or semi-urban areas of captured beaver, fox and gray squirrels, opossum, porcupine, raccoon, and striped skunk. Release of these species could either adversely impact the health of wild populations; or could likely become a nuisance animal again thus passing the problem on to someone else rather than constituting a solution of the problem.
2) Captured wildlife that is to be relocated must not be held by the NWCO for longer than 24 hours unless specifically authorized by ODWC.
3) Wildlife should not be relocated to a place close to human dwellings, which would transfer, rather than solve, the nuisance problem.
4) Wildlife that is relocated shall be released within the State of Oklahoma, at least 5 miles outside any city limit, but not more than one county distant from the capture site.
5) Wildlife shall not be released on private land without first obtaining the receiving landowner’s written permission.
6) Wildlife shall not be released on public land without first obtaining the written permission from either the governmental entity owning or administrating the release property. (This would include, but not be limited to, any city property; lands in federal or state ownership or administration; or utility company properties).

Here are some suggestion for areas of release if legal. ( And they're still pretty good if not so legal )

1. Topping our list is, of course, those people who owe you money and refuse to pay.

2. Next on our list would be those people who claim to love animals....PETA, HSUS, Defenders of Wildlife, etc. etc.

3. Next would be those people of a political persuasion that conflict with your own.

4. Relatives, friends, and anyone else that has made a snide comment about what you do for a living.

5. Any member of the IRS who may have called you in to question some of your deductions.

I'm sure you can come up with more but I'll leave those to your discretion.

It's my understanding that a third option exists for coons: turning over to a rehabber who is also a licensed veterinarian. Never had anybody choose that option; only had one (stupid) customer release kits on her property.

I can relocate some with land owners written permission.

Anything in the order "Carnivora" I must euthanize.

I don't normally relocate unless there is a special request and they are willing to pay for the extra time and mileage. I don't see any sense in reloacating a problem critter who is now trap smart.
