Just playing the odds.

Used to like driving fast. Now I don't. Lower chance of tickets. Lower chance of wrecks. Lower chance of dying in a car. Better chance of lower insurance premiums.

I'd rather not wear gloves but I do when bedding coyote traps because research shows that it will increase my odds of catching one.

I keep my finger off the trigger until I'm ready to shoot because that has been proven to decrease my odds of putting a bullet where I don't want it.

Not using tobacco greatly increases my odds of not dying from it or trying to live with half a face.

I wast told that a vast majority of mouth cancer patients also had a long history of very poor dental hygiene. Like never brushing their teeth.

I still dip. But take breaks every few months while trying to quit. The cost is what kills me, a tin of cope or more a day adds up fast. I'm 20 and have been off and on since I was 16.

I did give up drinking, but not because of figuring my liver was going to fall out or cancer.I quit because I became very unsociable so to speak.and I don't like confined spaces.

True, A person has to figure out for themselves if the risks out weigh the rewards. For me the rewards out weighed the risks.

Hey, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to all you guys for quitting!

I smoked for 34 years and loved it. I just hated myself for being so addicted to them and for paying 10+ dollars a day for something that was killing me.

Haven't had a smoke since February 15th and feel and look better everyday.

So old thread, now that it has been 4 years who'd still going strong? How has it been? I'm still quit and at times it has been rough but I'm pretty proud that I've been able to stay off of it for so long.

Still going strong sense April 2013. The bad part is that some day I still get in truck and look around for a can or will just get a bad craving for a dip.

Been dipless for over 10 years. I only dipped during Marten/Fisher season for 4-5 years before that. Cope usually, but regular Skoal as a change-of-pace. I tried all the different chews/snuffs over the years. Filthy, dirty, disgusting habit...................I loved dipping.

Been 20 years since I quit. My advise is to stay out of bars and away from people who chew. I was in a bar after not chewing for a year the first time, a friend opened a can and offered me a chew and I fell off the wagon. I chewed more than before for a year and quit the 2nd time. That was 20 years ago. Its tough but you can do it.
I figured up what I was spending on chew and beer. Figured I could make payments on a new Harley Davidson with that much money. Had plenty of urges to chew but went riding instead. Still riding today.
Good Luck my friend, you can do it!

Coming up on 1 year on May 5th . Sat in a job-related cancer class that day and on the way out threw my can in the trash. Haven't touched it since.

Man, it's been 5 1/2 years. I had a pinch about 2 or 3 months ago and nearly threw up. I'm definitely cured.

It's been way over 15 years sinc I last touched the stuff, and don't miss it one bit. It is a disgusting habit, but when you chew, you overlook all that! Glad I quit, after fourty years of it, and never look back!
