Couple thoughts come to mind. You can take the trap apart, remove the old attachment, and slip a D ring in it's place, use your choice of attachment to put the chain on. I'd still put a swivel right at the trap. Personally I like the original piece as it already swivels, but I put most traps on a long chain on a drag...in the brush...in the snow...so most critters don't get that much pull. Down there you might have trouble with a big yote staked on a short chain, but I don't know.

I like talking about long springs....
On page 4 of this thread, there's a picture of some old Victor 3Ns. You might could fabricate yourself that attachment. Take some rod or a big enough nail, bend it to shape to fit around the spring, weld a the right size nut in between the ends, and put a J hook through the nut. Similar to a sterling style swivel.
Going to review this whole thread now. Lots of good stuff.

I just purchased some stock #4 victor dbls. I'm wanting to upgrade the chain and the hookup. I want to keep it connected to the spring and was wondering if anyone knew a good way of doing this? I have used the KB Teardrop rings on longsprings as replacement clevis. Just run the J-hook thru the end of teardrop ring and you have a double swivel at the end of the spring.

Given the design and mechanics of the dbl longs, do weaker springs effect holding power or just the speed at which the jaws close? X2

Anybody know what the inside jaw spread is on the old victor #4 DLS?

Thanks Kevin. Wanted to make sure they were legal in Pa. I figured the springs would have to be really wore out to affect the lockup and holding power also.
