Jwood, good video.
The year the state made the boxes a law the fisher catch was around 165 +/- and the marten catch about the same. Now consider this, my fur buyer has records of many years buying 1500 fisher. The boxes are not efficient and are the pipe dream of a non long liner.
I along with several friends had always dreamed that when we retired from regular work that we could run long lines much like we did in the 70s and 80s. Well you can, but not efficiently for fisher or marten. The state has ended that.
I have caught a lot of very large fisher in 120s in boxes. The 120 or 5x5 in boxes work very well and are perhaps my favorite fisher sets, but are now illegal. I would suggest that the 120 or 5x5 set in a box, keeping the trap back a decent distance from he opening would be an acceptable set up for avoiding the non threatened Lynx. An adult Lynx only has a arm so long. It seems plausible that it would be quite difficult for a Lynx to get into a trap that was recessed say 20" into a box, even with a opening slightly larger than a trap. This type of a box has probably not been tested because it would be too efficient and no one from the MTA has suggested it.

Mac; Not only was that suggested but it was put forth as a motion which carried. Then was ignored by the mta. Just to keep the record straight. This and many other suggestions were made by trappers that actually trap, to no avail. Don't ever make the mistake of expecting any degree of logic pertaining to the Lynx debacle. I guess they cave in order to appease the anti's.

It's pretty bad when we're only allowed 10 fisher a year and can't even come close to that harvest individually with dozens of traps out. I have trapped years with only 20 or so traps out because I was just starting and still in school but was able to fill all my tags. Too bad too because fisher are one of the only profitable furbearers left in this state.

Checked a few "fisher exclusion devices" today. Had three that made a million tracks but would not go in the 4" hole also had 1 walk all around & on a side entrance box, but would not go in. Are you trapping the western mountains or are you up north?

Thats a big area your trapping. I only have 60-70 fisher exclusion boxes out. I skip over 20-30 miles where someone else is trapping. Had four fisher work the area around the box hard last night, but they would not go in.

This lynxie walked the road for almost three miles. We should be able to trap lynx.

Canada and Alaska are full of lynx. There is no logical reason why we can't also trap lynx. They are not endangered.
