Does anyone know where I can find how to make baits for K9 and Cat with pictures? I lost sight of it but I would like to copy it.

If you plan on using it for dirtholes. I would shoot for a bait that retains fluid and stays moist. Lots of revisited holes.

You'd be wise to get free trapping supply catalogs from MTp and Sterling fur and Schmitt Enterprises and Northwest Trapper's and get the bait making books they have for sale ... all of Nick Wyshinski are good and Kellen Kaatz And Russ Carmen. Also there is a 13 pages of bait and lure in the archives.

NELSON BAIT FORMULA
Bait:
Any red flesh will do but the best is beaver, horse, woodchuck, skunk, housecat or bobcat. Cut into desired sized pieces, or grind. Place in gallon jar, 2/3 full. Place lid on loosely, just enough to keep flies out. Place in warm but shaded area until bait swells and juice forms on it and it has a frothy look to it. Just a good taint, not rotten. Stir in solution with a long fork. Mix well and when finished, the solution should cover the settled bait mass by about an inch. Bury a foot or so deep in earth trenches, lids on firm but not tight as jars may explode. Age in trench for at least one month.

Solution:

In a gallon jar, place 2 pints sun rendered fish oil (catfish or trout is best), 1 pint of glycerine and 20 heaping tablespoons of sodium benzoate. Add 1 ounce of valerian, 1 ½ ounces of tincture of aseofetida, then 8 tablespoons of ground beaver castor, 20 drops of pure skunk essence, and 1 pint of pure red fox urine. Fill jug the rest of the way with pure rainwater, shake well and age at least one week prior to adding to bait formula. It helps to add 4 ounces of ground muskrat or mink glands.

This year I poured a bait solution over a few cans of chunky canned dog food in a big jar letting it sit a month. It worked pretty darn good.

Surprisingly it will mellow in the mix due to bleed off of the vapor. Skunk is very difficult to hold in a lure or bait due to its properties of extremely small molecules that tend to find a way to escape slowly but surely over months.

I used to make all kinds of crap with all kinds of stuff in it. It all works but nowadays, I use glands by themselves. Skunk essence by itself. Castor by itself. And beaver meat, deer meat or rabbit if I have some not good to eat.. fresh or really lightly tainted.. nothing has worked better than straight beaver or deer chunked or ground.. and then either some gland or urine or castor.. I love beaver castor and skunk essence mixed.. that's about as complex as I get nowadays.

8 tablespoons of good grade castor would surely provide a dominate castor presence and over power most of those other ingredients in a month or so in a bait of that small volume. I guess dominate ingredient compounding wasnt considered much back in that day. That sure would make that bait more in the category of a lure then a bait. But nothing wrong with that. Just need to use far less then a normal bait.

I have learned that if you mix non edible ingredients into a bait such as skunk musk or synthetic oils, a meat bait.. whether it be fish or red meat... And somehow the critter gets to the bait and doesn't get caught, they typically won't respond back to that lure ever again. They shouldn't get to the bait without getting caught but sometimes especially with grey fox and bobcat, they will climb all over the set to get the bait and never get caught. So I use straight meat or fish.. and then put the lure on the lip of the hole or on the back in.. and my lure is either a beaver castor/skunk musk mix.. or straight glands and urine.. or straight castor..

I really don't care for a rolling response, found too many snapped traps with neck and back hair. Rubbing responses are better. And where you place the lure plays a big role on that. You can add beaver castor to meat. Especially beaver. But if you add essential oils and other crap their not gonna like the taste of it. I'm not saying I'm correct but it's been my experience over the last 17yrs of fiddling with baits and lures... in Louisiana food is abundant all yr long. We had 8 days of temps in the teens and they said it's the worst winter in 20yrs lol.. further up north I imagine the critters don't care as much as long as it settles in their stomach. But down here, they can pick and choose and they DO NOT like the taste of essential oils and skunk musk. They will never respond to your bait ever again if they get a taste of it. Unless it's pure meat. But like I said, nothing has worked better than just straight beaver or deer meat. With a scent higher up either on the lip of the hole or on the backing.
