They came in both the wide base and narrow base to accommodate the different sized widths of the early Newhouse bear traps. Mine are all the wider versions. The third #6 clamp from the left, if you look close, was a narrow version but had been converted over most likely at the factory. Greg

cascade OP trapper Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 362 Washington state	I would like to show you my collection. Here is a photo of my #5 oval top clamps. # six oval tops No5 and No6 Wrap around clamps tear drop clamps and finally early #4 clamps with 4 embossed on the side of the clamp.

I found the u clamp in the box of traps the #5 and clamp was in, figure it must be used to hold one spring wile you clamp the other. I will keep it clamped under the clamp so I don't loose it. There is no such thing as stupid questions. Just stupid answers
