Good idea, thought of painting mine orange, caught a deer and it ran off with my drag, the deer got out easy, but it took a long time to find my trap.

I have had my share of climbers on drags or extension cables that can make a mans pants leg wet at times with those close calls. You will learn with experience to beware when trapping cats like that on the approach.

The part I am always concerned with is when you have a cat on a long chain or cable that is free to run from one end to another without any restrictions in between. When they hit the end of the chain or cable you can lose some at times with a poor catch. Just the way it goes at times.

Aren't many out there with some years of experience that hasn't had that happen a time or two I would confidently say.

Hern, I have had my share of the hide and seek crew with some tug of war types too. Caught a badger years back in Kansas in a trail set for cats with a long extension cable. I had some digging to do just to be able to see it a little. That sure wasted some time that day.

Always amazed at how well they can dig with just one foot free. They could make some great post hole diggers if trained to follow directions for putting in a new fence row.

I trap around culverts a lot and have had a few interesting "wonder what is on the other end" moments - coyotes included. This bobcat tangled outside the culvert so was on a short chain but I have had a couple interesting bobcat tug of wars. I always pre-hook or wire the drag to a small stick that they can't get in the culvert.

that is so funny, I believe you just cloned me that day in what I had to do. Are you sure you aren't in the same location because it really looks identical. It was in a half section pasture.

Badgers!! hahahaha!! I caught one on a drag one time that was about 10 feet long, in a fence crossing. He went about 20 feet from the fence and got hung up on a juniper tree and started circling the wagons. by the time I come along it looked like there was a moat around that tree. It took me at least 20 minutes to find him in the moat and close to another 20 or 30 to dig him out, hahahaha!! Felt kinda bad because it was on the neighbors place but they don't get around there much. Looked like someone had gone around that tree with a Troy built rototiller.

Got a buddy in MO wanted to go cat trapping with me about 10 years ago. Big guy. Not scared of much. Been around livestock and trapping his whole life. Bobcat on a drag coming at him out of some brush made him scream like a little girl and fall down backwards. Yes Mark C I'm telling your story grin Wish I'd had a video camera. Never did have to remind him again cats are hard to see. Be careful approaching cat sets or following a drag mark.

FWIW I may have squalled when I saw that cat right over my head. I'm not sure.

" Be careful approaching cat sets or following a drag mark."

Even more fun in lion country.

For cats, use a clog. Attach to a twenty pound log and they don't climb. At least not very far.
