I’m planning on trying to trap coon and mink in addition to coyotes next season. My first thought was to grind up trash fish and let them ferment in the sun a bit before freezing in jars. I will be trapping in below freezing temperatures. Will this work? Or any recommendations on another bait to use?

Don't use wet bait in cold temps. get some commercial bait or some dry cat food. Also make sure the trap can be pulled out of the ground or off a stand.

Use dry cat/dog food whaterver's cheaper, with a little bit of fish oil around the set.

Just remember if you have cats in the area, they are going to show up with fishier baits. Not a huge issue but for me it is. I have two random stray house cats near my coon line. Already caught both in legholds. If rain starts to be an issue with your DP’s and soaking your dry bait, you could drop a golf ball on top of each one. Just a thought.

cheapest bag of dry cat food you can find, pour some in a gallon sized zip lock bag and pour about a cup of liquid smoke over top and shake it up. easiest, cheapest and best I've found

A variety on hand is worth a lot. Anyone that has raised coon, know they their tastes change per season and per coon. I've had coon that liked grapes and the next one wouldn't touch a grape. Same with fish, etc, etc, etc. And maybe why we see some coon won't touch a DP.

Icd is correct. Fruit loops makes a great coon bait.

I wouldn't taint fish, however.

I have had good luck with a cheap fish based cat food and liquid smoke. Once I added some skunk to it and it was really good too.

You can get maple flavored marshmallows or just get $1 bag at dollar store. Cut them in half. put them in gallon ziplock bag. Then add box of strawberry jello add 2 table spoons vanilla. I put one of them on trigger. Then get $5 dollar bag of cat food from Walmart. Fill a coffee can full and add one can of sardines in oil. Shake it up . I use a fish oil capsule bottle to pour it into traps when setting. Put some of the marshmallows in a quart bag. Can carry everything in my jacket pockets. Just leave extra food in truck and refill between stops.
Also here is the best deal on lure ever. I just get a small dishwashing liquid bottle to carry this in . Works great. The wildberry is the same thing as a sweet coon lure from a well known co. But the flavors are awesome. Also they are good on ice cream lol

I use sardines, tuna, cat food/dog food and fish oil. Liquid smoke sounds like it's good too.
