Does leaving dry mink pelts on table in cool room for up to 2 months matter? Was reading something about they may get discolored? I heard freezing was not good either

With what people have been getting from Groeny lately. Why would you want to store them?

No it will not hurt them but dispite what you've been told, freezing mink pelts wrapped in a burlap bag or fur bag is a great way of storing them long term. I did that for two seasons and Groeny did not discount my mink at all.

Mink here are very fat and even the fleshed pelts are still pretty greasy. Stored in a freezer the fat does not oxidize and so the leather does not turn yellow. Hanging in a garage for example, they yellow.

I don't quite know what you're asking, but, yes, mink skins do turn yellow pretty fast but if you sell them this year it won't have any negative effect on values. If you wait until next year the fur will have started to oxidize and turn reddish. Freezing the skins if held over a year will help some, but not entirely.

Don't worry about the yellowish color the mink are getting. They will bring just as much as one that isn't turning yellow. What you must watch out for is grease burn. If you left to much grease on the shoulder area under the saddle, then they need stored in a freezer. If they are grease burning they will start to get kinda opaque look to the leather, under the saddle. If that happens you can pull underfur and guard hair from the leather. If that starts to happen, then you will have a mink tossed into the low grade section. Then you will hear the term from your buyer, your mink is tainted under the saddle because you left to much grease under the saddle.
