358wsm, I agree that the 308 is easy on the shoulder! Thats one reason its such a great choice, its easy to shoot. No need for expensive premium bullets in it though. Cup and core do a fine job. The 308 in my experience doesn't have the velocity to warrant a tough bullet like the Barnes, unless you shoot a lighter weight bullet, and theres nothing wrong with that.

Agreed.
Iffin you put a premimum bullet in the wrong place it amounts to suffering and loss. But a good cup and core through the lungs produces very convinci g results.

I've never shot A Moose but if I ever do I want to shoot it with a .35 Whelen.

It is what it is.

After I built and hunted for awhile with the 358 WSM I happened to be at a gun show where I spotted a Ruger No.1 K1A (Stainless and Walnut) in 35 Whelen. It came home with me. The next year I took a beautiful Newfoundland Moose with that rifle shooting a 250gr Nosler Partition. Before I could reload he was on the ground. The outfitter asked me what I was shooting, I told him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a bear tag and said, "Here, this is on me." I didn't see any bear, but I did see a very impressed outfitter.

The Whelen is never a bad choice.
