Yotetrapper and K9
Thank you both. There might be something to that cage idea.
The information from your bud there K9 is EXACTLY the kind of information I am interested in knowing. That gets us into the coons head and gives some possible perspective.

I use the first box with the 6" opening and I catch plenty of coon and I use sardines as bait.

Given today’s raccoon market why would anyone trap raccoons ? Haha . Use a 155 for fisher and Marten and eliminate all this nonsense. What brand 155s are you using to get consistently quick kills on fisher?

The vertical box option Is just about coon proof. No mater what type of box or cage you decide to use you need to lift the front of the cage off the ground about 5" . It's a lot easier to a coon to commit to your box If It dosen't have to get down on It's stomachs to get In the box.

I didn't see it mentioned on here, so I'll say I would run the 10 by 10 square with trap 18 inches back BUT using a pan on the coni. I know using a pan on my 160's in coniboxes greatly increased my catch rate. Also using hardware cloth on the back of the boxes increased the catch rates, so pan with hardware cloth back would be my suggestions.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure

So your forcing a 20LB coon to crawl 18" back Into the box before it reaches the trap. I'm sure you catch some coon but how many are you missing. When I ran some BG boxes I recessed the trap about 3". And elevated the front end of the box about 5". This made It very easy for the coon to just stick It's head Into the box. I was using 160s since the 220 rules In WI made It a lot harder to catch coon In BG boxes. Twist the 2 trigger wires together and slid them about 3" of to one side. That's when using 160s. Try and keep the trigger wires out of the coons face.

I run the circle triggers and have great success using them.
