I've been inspired by the 25/06 post to make this post. For some reason known only to the Almighty I'm attracted to rounds at the far end of the spectrum. 25/35 to 300 H&H magnum, none of the 'standard rounds in between '. The 7mm/08, it's a round that depresses me, it's accurate, no recoil, easy to reload for everything, everybody chambers for it and it just kills all out of proportion. I've seen it kill whitetail deer, elk & buffalo. Dead right there. If I only had one caliber with a choice of bullets that would be it, that's just depressing. Can you imagine a world where you had to admit one rifle would do it all?
Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Good round, I had a .280 for a while, great all around rifle. I would have gotten a 7mm-08 barrel for my Garands had it not been that .308 is cheaper to shoot.

Yep. So will a 30~06, 270Win, 280Rem. But they each have their "best uses". Good reason to have them also. And a three hundred when a little more range is called for an a thirty three when a little more "thump" is the ticket or a twenty five when a little more finesse is what is needed and so on and so forth. .22~~~.500 Just about covers any thing I expect to encounter. Besides I don't have to have a NEED. All I have to have is a WANT. I must admit though that for a few years now, the latest and greatest have produced more yawns than than hmmmms.

Killed my biggest buck with a 7mm-08. Been described at the perfect whitetail rifle. Great for kids. Mild recoil. Good ballistics.

Right on the heels of my 284 Winchester.
Been running 120gr NBT's and have had nothing but excellent results, but that's no surprise.
I have a special place in my heart for medium 7's. But I am having an affair with my new 6.5x55 Swede in the T3.

I was very seriously thinking 7mm-08 before I decided to just shoot 308
another caliber that is sort of depressing is 30-06 once you own one it does so much so well that any time something is beating it , it is by so little or one the fringe of the limits that very few people would ever need.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

i have the same rifle Zim. it has a burris signurature 2x8 compact scope on it. It shoots 140 gr. sierra game kings very well. There is just something about a Winchester model 70 classic. The little woman has a 7-08 in a model 70 Winchester classic compact, It is as we say in Wisconsin, a pretty good deer rifle. She has since shot 26 deer and one bear with it with 27 shots. 140 grain Barnes Vor-Tx bullets are tough to beat.

Lol, funny these caliber threads are coming up as i've been kicking around my next gun! I remember the 7mm craze, the -08 and 7mm rem mag were what everyone around here were buying. And the long rangers were into 7-338 at the 1000 yd shoots. 80's into the 90's. I was into the 6.5 back then, before the 6.5 was cool, lol. This is about all you see at the shoots now. But, i had to get a couple 7's, i couldn't be left out. I bought a 284win, a 7mm mauser and a 7mm wthby. Killed deer with all them, but just wasn't my 264win mag. My brother-in-law has a model 7 in 7-08 and man has he piled the deer up with it. It usually comes down to user more so than caliber, even tho i have my pets that i believe do just a little better at dropping them on the spot which where i hunt is paramount. (can't have them staggering down the side of the mountain cuz i just have to get them back up over) 140gr bullets are you guys favorite? (my favorite in 6.5)

Sooooo many great choices.....so little time. If only I was rich and famous instead of good looking I could afford to buy more guns, load more rounds and shoot more holes. But, I have to work to pay the bills, hunt to feed the family and find a little me time to trap and fish and whatever.

Now you are talking. Not sure about the T3 .... jury is still out on that. But the Swede has done a fine job for 100 years now and is still a great round.

I can stand with several hundred shooters that I've rubbed elbows with that do a pretty convincing job of impressing the jury. I've yet to hear of a T3 that wouldn't shoot accurately. However there might be a couple of flukes out there, I've just not heard of it. I own 2 myself that are total Rock Stars..one the Swede, the other 270 WSM. Best to you.
