There are no (non-factory) coatings that are going to hold up more than a season,,, and not that long if you're making many catches, especially coons, in the traps.
I would not waste time waxing painted traps. Boiled traps benefit from the lubrication of the wax,,, but it IS NOT required.
Treating traps in any manor is just to slow rusting (prolong their life and resale value), remove some odors (different opinions on if this is important), and camo the traps some (which only could help on exposed traps).
You'll catch fur if you set your traps correctly whether or not you do anything to treat them IMO.

Don't forget crisp fast firing and lubrication you get with waxed traps. My bodygrips only need treated every 3 years or so,if that.

Did dye and wax this year think I like the sound of the dip technique. Gonna try it out this summer. Do I need to remove 100% of the old dye or can I dip over it

Do you need to wax or can you just boil in walnut husks If you only boil in Walnut hulls your hands will be a nice shade of brown when you go setting. I learned it the hard way. Only stays that way about a week or so or until you handle more traps....
Wish I had more time to trap....

I use the 330's year round.Bodygrips in water don't take a beating like footholds set on land.

Agreed. Waxed traps are lightning fast. I don't have to worry about the action jamming when something steps on the pan. And my conibears are so fast it catches over and over. I only wax mine every couple yrs also.

I wouldn't wax over any paint or dip. The hot wax will burn the paint or dip and also ruin the wax. And there Is no need for It.
If you want to speed up your BGs just use a wax crayon on the trigger system. I powder coated some of my Bgs but It would be very costly for most of you. But I know some one. LOl
