Other than standing up to salt or brackish water, what makes them better?

Put out 1/2 a beaver and after a week or two the weasels should be all over it. Pull the beaver and put in your sets and you've got them.

drasselt these jars/containers I'm assuming are ~6" tall? so you just stand them on top of the snow or ground and the shrews jump up, enter the hole, and can't climb out? I didn't think shrews would/could jump/climb up that high to enter the container in the 1st place. They seem much more dirt oriented than mice. Bait just 1' off the ground on logs or downed trees gets ignored by them (but not by mice). Shrews here climb. I use plastic peanut butter, mayo jars etc. Pringles cans are a good long drop lol. I just put them at the base of the tree in which the set is and the shrews find their way in. I tried the plastic disposable water bottles but they frosted up inside and the shrews could climb out. Our weasels climb too.

Other than standing up to salt or brackish water, what makes them better? Stainless steel has much less friction than rusty steel. Those SS traps are lightning quick and easy to set.

One of the best I have ever found.Under a big tamarack.Pic before gathering and after. ... Weasels will have toilet spots like a mink or otter. But very hard too find.I will get some pics tomorrow. ... You might be in different terrain there where you are. Here in mountainous deep woods Long-Tailed Weasel toilets are easily found. They are few and far between but their probable locations are easy to spot cause they are the highest of all the toilets. Coon toilets on ground or on log 1’ off ground. Fisher on logs 1’-3’ off ground. Weasel 5' or even higher. A few Summers ago we found a Long-Tailed toilet >10’ off the ground on a partially fallen tree which I climbed up on after seeing feathers scattered about up top. It was so high up it would have been impossible to see if I hadn't climbed up there we'd have walked right past it and never have known. I’ve never seen anything like it. Climbing up there was difficult and I wish I had taken photos. I’ll never forget the spot and will return there this Spring after snow melt to try for some photos. And weasel scat is one of the most identifiable in the woods, nothing else resembles its size, composition, and those twisted up ends. Looking forward to your pics. Thanks.
