On a 24 hour check, ditch the shock spring, and keep a short chain. That’s my opinion

How many coyotes did you catch?

Cheaper made traps, unless modified can be dismantled by a coyote pretty quick. I have caught and held coyotes in Duke 1 1/2's and I have caught and lost coyotes in Victor 1 3/4's that were not modified in some way. I've never had a problem with Jake Traps with or without shock springs installed.

I run some DP's with light shock springs, use these in brushy area's on certain creeks. Helped a lot in this area and set up. I put some on mt Bridger 2's that I used for fishers this year.

Shock springs don't help with foot damage. Foot damage, or lack of, is a direct effect of the jaws face design and spring strength. Wide face = less cutting & Strong springs = Less foot sliding = less cutting.

Shock springs help prevent shoulder injury during lunges. They also lessen the chance of your staking system being dislodged by stronger critters like coyotes.

I run them on my #3 coyote traps and all my drags. I have no evidence they hurt or help,BUT I know for sure they help when I’m talking to landowners about permission. I usually bring one of my full mod traps with me to show and explain exactly what swamp wolf was saying about jaw thickness and edges etc.
