Was at a junk shop today and found an old backpack, price tag was marked, Vintage Trappers backpack....

I'm looking to do some vintage trapping displays at home, I have a couple wicker style trap baskets, but this caught my attention and I'm not sure if this style of backpack was ever really used on the trapline....here is a pic of what the pack looked like...
any idea if this might be used back in the day as a trapline pack? Thanks

A friend of mine had a pack that looked exactly like that a couple years ago on an elk hunting trip. It was very well made. He got it from an army surplus store. He said it was either Italian, French or some other counties military surplus.

Looks similar to the Duluth canoe packs.

European military surplus. Great users, though!

Ok, now that I know it's not, any other suggestions on a unique trappers backpack from back in the early days?

Trapper Nelson backpacks were used a lot in this area. Some used them just as a pack board without the bag, and some used them with the bag on them. I think they started making them in the 1920's, but not sure on that. I know my Father-in-law used them in the 1930's. I still have the last one he used around here some place.

I think if you take that into Target, they’ll issue you a new set of skinny jeans for free.

I've bought those in the 80's at a military surplus store.

I used to have one of those. It had a wire frame for support.

But since I moved a few years ago, don't recall its location.

I did purchase it at an army surplus store locally, only 25 years ago or so.

They carry well. I was told it was Swiss.

I had one of those as well. I think I removed the wire frame, not sure. I could carry well over 50 pounds of clams on my back to the car a mile and a half away. Not very comfortably, but the pack held up well.

I own one of those, or a very close copy. It was used by an old friend of mine while.....trapping. The guy was a wiry and rather slim fellow a few years older than me. He'd fill that with his traps and gear and go all day, whacking in muskrat sets under the ice. He didn't wear skinny jeans much, he was former Army Airborne and I believe he was in S.E. Asia a little. He didn't speak of his service at all. I got the pack, and all his trapping stuff, when he hit some hard times and asked me to buy his gear.

I know them as a "Ruck Sack" from my mountaineering/climbing days, very popular in Europe.

I had & used very similar packs. Mine had a canvas tube inside for Theodolites. US Army surveyors Pack M1-A1 hand operated air cooled.
