I just started trapping coyote in January and have gotten 1 so far. I recently got access to a property I can only trap on weekends because it's too far away to check before work. So I can set Friday evenings and check Saturday and Sunday mornings. Last weekend was the first and I didn't set this weekend because I wanted to do some more scouting. I found a couple of areas in field corners that had lots of scat like 2nd pic and a lot of scratchings. I had a set in one of those areas last weekend and today I found it dug up with some scat right on it (1st pic). But it looks a little different than the other scat nearby. Are these both coyote scat? I did see a skunk while I was making the set and my backing which was some pine bark piled up was kicked down. We've obviously had quite a bit of rain lately.

When you find these areas how many would you set there?

That is my guess as well, I'd prolly set 4 traps, 2 at least. Stinks you only get the weekends, some cats in my area take 4 weeks to come back through, and that sign looks fresh, which is not what I wanna see on cats. Regardless, I would set it, and set it heavy.

That's interesting. One thing I forgot to mention is the first day I checked it, there was a track on the set and it was definitely more "rounded" than coyote tracks. I was thinking maybe bobcat, but again, I'm new at this and just figured I was wrong. I live in southern Indiana and unfortunately we don't have a bobcat season yet but the population is definitely going up around here and I hear we should be getting a season soon.

Here a couple more pics. So are these coyote? Hair, twisted, pointy?
