Walleyed wins, Bay of Quinte.
I've never seen girth on walleye anywhere like Lake Ontario. The picture doesn't even do it justice, built more like a carp than a walleye. Truly unbelievable!
Put on 10's of thousands of miles dreaming of a 15 pound walleye but wasn't sure it would ever happen. Dumped one at the hole two days earlier that was probably 14 pounds, couldn't get the head started and the spoon stuck on the bottom of the hole. Watched it rip the hooks and swim away, heart broke.
Last hour of the last day; big mark floated up off the bottom. I started raising and knew by the way it was coming up "it was going to bite". Wasn't the normal "dunk" bite but one of those mush bites, set the hook and didn't even move it on the hook set.
Saw it coming up and it was perfectly lined up towards the hole, subconsciously thought "that's a 15lber and its now or never". Put pressure on the spool with my fingers so it couldn't run and just kept pulling. Pulled it right into the hole, the head came up and knew it would be to big to grab with one hand. Set the rod down, grabbed it with both hands and slid it out onto the ice.
Maybe 30 seconds - lol
Weighed it, measured it, took some pictures and let it go.
Hugged my friend, told him I'm done for the day, picked up my stuff. Went and had a steak dinner with a couple Amaretto Stone Sours.
Thank you for all the nice comments, it was something I've always wanted to experience!
