Cant get sound to work for video - so the string holding the spring down is chewed by the mouse to get to the bait? Guess I need clarification on the trigger...

Yes the mouse chews the string that holds the spring down

What size hole do you think would be good for barn rats? Not the monster Norway rats, the smaller brown ones

Made a new version with a different spring system from snap trap parts . The steel rod holds the dogs down giving you two free hands to tie the thread.

If I build one I would cut a slot through the entrance hole so I could just slide the spring tie down string through It. A knot on the bottom end would keep It In place.

Very creative. When I get the time I will have to make it a weekend project with one of my nephews he will get a kick out of it.

Here is a start to finish how to. Better mouse trap

That's a pretty good idea. Using the mouse trap springs will make it a lightning fast kill.

I would change the trigger system to a toggle(notched rod) like a box trap.when the mouse pushes it it releases up thru one hole on top.
Either way it seems like a lot of (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) around when you can catch tons of mice with a bucket, that never needs re-setting.
