I was abel to check out that lake today! And I believe new beavers have moved in! Saw one swimming around and poping its tail! In two years ive never saw a beaver in this lake! The drain tube was blocked again! I dug it out and fenced it off heavily, and set a snare in the opening I left. And added a 330 in a deep run with a natural dive log! Any other body of water I would almost bank on a dead beaver! But here im not holding my breath! But if in fact it is a new group of beavers I stand a chance. I will know in less than 24 hrs. God willing I will have some pics tommorrow

A tray that consists of a frame with a hardware cloth bottom and built big enough to hold a couple set 750s or B5s. The tray will be set and stabilized about 4 or 5 inches under water with the traps on drowners. The beaver swims into the tray....attempts to crawl over it...

This setup takes a bit of work to set up but it's pretty good on shy beaver as they can't see it while swimming and bump into it like they might would a submerged log and attempt to climb over...first putting their feet down....

David Lafforthum came up with this to my knowledge and has a video (Annihilation of Trap-Shy Beavers) with details on construction and setup.

I think it happens for several reasons. One, beavers trying to climb over a trap that’s barely fully submerged or nearly submerged. Their weight and/or fa-niggling on the trap fires it. This can happen due to rising water (partially submerged when it was set) or due to a lack of blocking on the ceiling (dive stick).

I now only use twisted together, T-shaped wires on the bottom. Big ones hit with their chest. Lil ones must try to climb over, schwak!

Then there’s the ones that turn away or try to move it. Many things can happen, hopefully there will be clues to figure it out and prevent the next time.

I was just wondering. I’ve tried a bunch and have settled with twisted, dog down T for all beaver traps that I don’t want otter.
