God's speed. He lived much longer than doctors ever said he would and accomplished more than most people with good health.

Interesting choice of words: "Godspeed" as he didn't believe in either God or an afterlife. Nevertheless, an amazing intellect who once said (after his diagnosis) that alway look to the stars, not down at your feet.

Hawking on why the universe exists:
"If we find the answer to that, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason—for then we would know the mind of God".

A big problem many of these super smart guys have is that it's hard for them to conceive of something/someone smarter than themselves. Humility is the first step in knowing God.

It was said it sounded like a Windows 98 computer shutting down when he died.

Other than being a brilliant mind, wasn't he kind of a horrible person?

This /\/\/\/\/\/\

Talk about fighting to your last. Hard to think of a better job done w/ the cards in your hand. Well played Mr. Hawking, well played.

Congrat's on being the first man to pee on another mans grave whom you have obviously judged to be less than you. I'm sure you know him personally to decree such a statement. We can only hope that you Tweed can not only help humanity but I truly hope deem us all to your level. In case you haven't figured it out and I'm sure you haven't, I'm being sarcastic. You don't have the intellect to spit shine the wheels on his chair. He has passed and still beats you by about 200 IQ points.

Hawking was once asked if given enough time was there anything he could not figure out. His reply: "Women"

No matter if he was liked or not, this is a useful statement by a very intelligent person for all of us to remember about the time we're feeling sorry for ourselves! Someone always has it worse than we do.

I've read a couple of his books and read his first wife's memoir about their marriage. I've never seen any mention of him being a "horrible" person. Like most of the world's great thinkers he was completely focused on his work and could be aloof and distant. That probably makes him less than the ideal husband and father but nothing approaching "horrible."

Years after both his divorces his first wife and her husband lived close to Hawking and would visit regularly. Sounds pretty "horrible" doesn't it?

Even if there proof of these types of allegations, I would never comment or openly bash a dead man or women. In my opinion, speaking ill of the dead makes you a "horrible" person.
