For those who may raise them, what would you call this one - a Greylag or Toulouse morph/hybrid? I spotted it Monday in a backwater, shallow water pond adjacent to Lake Ontario. It was with a small flock of wild Canada Geese that migrated in on a cold front. It was very wary when I drove up to the pond, and it was the first to flush as the flock followed.

Over my 12 years of birding with my camera in this flyway, I have seen three different loners with flocks of Canada Geese.

Any thoughts from pro poultry raising members would be most appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jonathan

I wouldn't know that answer myself, but the lighting and colour on your capture sure is nice.

Glad to see you're not buried in the snow storms . Be careful out there!

On the surface.....

I am not an expert but have dealt with birds and poultry most of my life and to me it looks a lot like some geese that a friend of mine had that were mixes of Canadian and Toulouse geese, the problem is that often when you start mixing types you don't get any real defined feather pattern it is all over the place

this is one others are lighter or even darker just all over the board

It appears to be a toulouse/African goose cross. The coloration is mostly toulouse. The black on the beak and shape of the base of the beak would come from African genetics.
