I have used the purple cleaner you can buy at wal mart. Any more though I just boil them and dye and don’t sweat it. The traps will come out chalky looking the first year but just dip in hot wax and go. The coyotes don’t care what color they are and after a couple years they will look just like the ones that have never been dipped in FMJ.

And....I only treat traps IF the dip is rubbed off....if it isn't ....I wash, dry, adjust and box them for next trapping season. Skunked up traps get thrown in a creek or pond for a few weeks... rinsed, adjusted and boxed.

I use super clean degreaser to remove fmj, paint, etc. Find it at Wal-Mart in the auto section. Comes in purple bottle.

Though I have never had to deal with FMJ, I am with BP Wolfer and MChewk. I'd care more about function.

You can rinse off and re-dip them, make sure they are dry.

You can just power wash off let dry and re dip if you choose to stay with FMJ.

Thanks....I'm still debating if I want to go "new school" or "old school" regarding my k9 traps.

Is this the process that you would do every year in preparation for the next year? You know, power wash and redip every year?

You can't cheat the mountain pilgrim. Mountain's got its own ways.
