My last few turkey hunting trips were over in about 30 minutes. Then you have to eat the dumb buzzards. It's fun, but they aint no Butterball so kind of give up. 2 things: 1) carry a kid or two and let them experience those "easy" gobblers. 2) find a better cook. Wild turkey breast is delicious.

Our season opens here Sunday the 25th of March..... for archery. I plan on getting a blind out before then and putting a couple hours a day in for the next couple weekends. Sitting on a folding chair inside. I hunt with a cross bow. Not much of a shotgun hunter...although I have used one in the past. A couple times. Spring time turkey hunting is really cool if you love to call. But using a blind I have almost better luck just setting a hen decoy out and waiting. Calling very little. We can get 3 permits if we want. But one or two will do for me. Hopefully I will get to take my two small grand daughters along one day or two. Might not sit still and be quiet but that will be ok as long as we are having fun together.

My wife and I shoot our limit of 5 each every year in our yard, open the door and pull the trigger. We had 50 or60 in the yard last week, hate them, avian rats, but they are decent to eat.

No feeder just green grass. Farmers around here hate them. They can ruin a lot of hay real fast. We get a 4month any turkey season in the fall and 1 and 1/2 month bearded turkey only season in spring. They were introduced and very few people hunt them like most of you do. We shoot them when they become a pest.

I am ashamed to go this year. My wife bought me a real fancy box call made in France by Pete (swift4me on this forum) for Christmas. This thing has brought in turkeys from miles around and it is just sitting on the window sill overlooking our woods. It will be downright dangerous to go into the woods and actually use it.
Zim I like that that is the call I need. LOL Not sure I will go this year it would be the first time in many many year if i don't go. I see a lot of turkeys but no strutting that I have noticed we have a lot of white stuff left to melt.
Give me a fish, I will eat for a day. Teach me to fish, I will eat for a lifetime

Trapping is easy you say? You try getting your target animal to step in a 3 inch area of its whole territory.

I'm headed out to Northwest Kansas to do the archery only season. I think this is my fifth year. Last year I finally tagged out on two Rio Grande turkeys. It was my first time ever tagging out, so I was really pumped. Out there turkey season would be over in two days if you were using a shotgun. I started hunting with a multiple Grand Slam guy (John Sloan) and he told me that I needed to hunt them with a bow or crossbow. I wasn't 100% behind it due to how hard it is to get one with archery equipment. The farmers though will give you easier permission if you are using archery equipment. I think they think you won't get any. Because I go out there so much (my in laws live there) I actually keep a bow, crossbow, an air rifle, and a prairie dog gun at my brother in laws farm. That way even during the middle of the day I'm hunting something else. I use the air rifle a lot for rabbits. The .223 for prairie dogs, and I go back and forth between my bow and my crossbow for turkeys. When I retire in a couple years I'm moving out there. Can't wait to start trapping that area.
